This provision is good

 Children demonstrate strong social skills. They play well together and form very good friendships with others. Children are confident in meeting new people and attending different groups within the community.  The partnerships with parents and carers are well established. The childminder continually discusses children's development and how parents and carers can support this at home. She regularly encourages parents and carers to share what children have been learning at home, to inform children's overall assessments.  The childminder has good links with other childcare professionals. She uses the opportunity to share information, ideas and resources and strengthen her practice.  The childminder makes good use of her observations of children's learning to prioritise what they need to learn next.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully established information sharing with other settings that children attend, to provide greater consistency of support for their learning.  Occasionally, the childminder does not provide the highest level of challenge to help children make the best possible progress in their development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop further the partnerships with other settings that children attend, to ensure greater consistency of support for children's learning and development  ensure every opportunity is taken to provide the highest level of challenge, to help children make even better progress in their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of training, and discussed the procedures for self-evaluation.  The inspector took account of the views of parents and carers through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the action to take if she has any concerns about children. She has undertaken a range of training courses on child protection issues since the last inspection to refresh and update her knowledge. The childminder minimises risks and hazards on the premises so that children can play safely. She encourages parents and children to provide feedback on her service. The childminder identifies future training based on an evaluation of her own knowledge and skills. She makes appropriate changes to her practice as a result of the knowledge gained through training. For example, she has developed the range of activities outdoors to provide children with lots of opportunities to explore and investigate.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is skilful at supporting children's communication and language skills. She describes what she is doing and explains what she wants the children to do in clear and simple language. The childminder introduces lots of new words and explains the meaning of these to reinforce learning. She encourages children's conversations during their play. As a result, children are making very good progress in this area of learning. Children enjoy looking at books and talking about the pictures. They show good physical skills as they change into dressing-up outfits.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has very well-established routines so that children know what she expects of them. Children demonstrate high levels of independence; for example, at snack time they wash their hands and then sit at the table without being prompted. The childminder is very effective in encouraging children's perseverance. She organises the space and resources well to meet their needs. The childminder provides a good range of opportunities for children to develop an understanding of staying safe. For example, she teaches them about road safety and how to keep themselves safe on outings. Children learn about healthy foods and portion sizes, which contributes to their understanding of a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning. They have strong communication skills and rapidly learn new words. Children clearly understand the expectations and show friendly behaviour towards others. They have high levels of patience and a willingness to keep trying until they complete a task. Children are gaining the skills they need for school.
