This provision is good
Children develop secure bonds with the childminder. She is friendly, caring and responsive to their personal needs. Children are happy in the childminder's home and grow in confidence in the nurturing, homely environment. The childminder has effective and comprehensive methods of assessment. She detects any gaps in children's learning and makes plans to close them quickly. Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's achievements and progress. She works effectively with parents and external agencies to meet children's needs and ensure children benefit from a joint approach to their care and learning. Children behave well and any minor disagreements are quickly dispersed, due to the prompt interaction from the childminder and her positive encouragement. She supports children to play together and learn to share resources and take turns.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally the childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to develop children's critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. The childminder is not consistently successful in engaging and extending all children's involvement in activities.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding. She talked to the children and the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation, including the suitability checks and qualifications of the childminder, policies and procedures, children's development records, and planning. The inspector observed the children and the childminder. She evaluated the effectiveness of an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the written views of parents by reading their comments in questionnaires and letters. The inspector discussed the childminder's risk assessments and her self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder shows dedication to her childminding service. She evaluates the effectiveness of her practice and the progress that children make, to continue to develop her provision. Additionally, she encourages parents to share their views to help her outline where improvements need to be made. The childminder uses links with other childminders and her own reading and research to gain new good practice ideas. She successfully incorporates what she learns from training, such as through increasing the repertoire of early signs to support children's emerging communication. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to recognise and refer any concerns about children's welfare. She regularly checks her home for hazards and uses safety equipment, such as safety gates to ensure children are safe from higher-risk areas.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, the childminder acts as an effective role model as she explores resources alongside children, encouraging their interest and ideas. For instance, children enjoy imaginative role play together. They act out cleaning the playroom and talk about washing the floor. The childminder discusses risks and safety practices. She helps them make a sign on the chalkboard to warn of a slippery surface, modelling the use of writing for a purpose really effectively. Children enjoy exploring the resources set out by the childminder. She offers new ideas and uses descriptive language to help extend their learning. For example, they act out buying items from each other with play shop resources. Children say the cakes cost 'two pounds' and act out using the play till, showing their knowledge and understanding of the world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder makes effective use of her home to support children's learning. For example, children develop independence in their play, freely accessing a good range of stimulating toys and resources. The childminder's child-friendly garden has all-weather paving and grass to ensure children can readily explore outside whatever the weather. Children relish being active in the fresh air. They develop good control and coordination of their movements, such as climbing with increasing effectiveness and pushing themselves around on scooters. The childminder offers children reminders on safe practices, reassuring and encouraging them as they tackle age-appropriate challenges.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good social and communication skills, including those who need extra support. For instance, they listen well, learn new words and gain confidence in communicating. Older children actively take turns in conversation. They enjoy the company of other children and build beneficial friendships. Children enjoy making marks, designing and creating. Older children develop their early writing skills successfully, such as forming letters. Children develop positive attitudes towards learning and gain the skills they need to start pre-school and school.
