This provision is good
The childminder is motivated to continue her own professional development. She regularly completes relevant training courses and keeps up to date with current legislation and good practice guidance. The childminder demonstrates strong partnerships with parents. She is committed to working together with them to ensure continuity of care and learning for the children. The childminder knows the children well and understands where they are in their development. She uses this information effectively to plan for their next steps in learning. Children's emotional well-being is effectively supported. The childminder provides a friendly and welcoming care and learning environment in which children are settled and happy. The childminder is a good role model who treats children with positive regard. She effectively builds children's self-esteem, giving meaningful praise for good behaviour and individual efforts.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder does not organise adult-led activities well enough so that all children can concentrate and become fully engaged. The childminder does not always support children well enough to learn about similarities and differences in objects, materials and the natural world.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. She observed an activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector discussed children's learning with the childminder and looked at a selection of policies and other records. She also discussed the childminder's self- evaluation. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members and qualifications of the childminder. The inspector took account of written questionnaires completed by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder reflects on the service that she provides. She continuously assesses what has gone well and what has not each day. She has weekly meetings with her co- childminder to discuss the quality of the provision and how it can be further improved. In addition, she regularly seeks the views of parents. The childminder has an action plan for improvement that is focused on providing children with a high-quality care and learning experience. Written testimonials from parents demonstrate the high regard they have for her. They feel reassured that their children are well looked after and report that communication is good. Safeguarding is effective. Following recent child protection training the childminder has reviewed and updated her policy and procedure to ensure that she is following the Local Safeguarding Children Board guidelines.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is led by what the children want to do and engages well in their play. She adapts activities to allow children to participate at their own level. For example, when playing a board game together, the childminder encourages older, school-aged children to read what is on their shopping list while younger children identify the accompanying picture. The childminder extends children's learning. For example, she encourages children to work out how many more items they need for their shopping trolley. The childminder chats to children as they play. She shows an interest in what they have to say and engages them in conversation. The childminder responds well to the gestures and single words of younger children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop a good sense of belonging. The childminder finds out about their individual routines for sleeping and feeding through her discussions with parents. She follows these, promoting continuity of care. The childminder establishes caring relationships with the children. Children readily invite her to share in their play. The childminder sets clear and consistent boundaries for the children. She gently reminds them of these. Children are encouraged to use 'please' and 'thank you' and they respond well to the childminder's high expectations. Children play harmoniously together and understand the need to share, take turns and consider the feelings of others. The childminder plans outings into the local community. Children have daily opportunities for exercise and fresh air, helping to promote their good health and physical well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder regularly checks children's progress to ensure that they are making good progress from their starting points across all areas of learning. Children are independent and motivated learners who readily lead their own play. They choose readily from the toys and resources available to them. Children understand that print carries meaning. They enjoy stories in small groups and confidently join in with familiar text.
