This provision is good
The childminder gives parents daily feedback and keeps them well involved in their children's progress, to support continuity in their care and learning. She has established effective links with other settings that children attend. They regularly share information to ensure that they meet children's care and educational needs. The childminder regularly evaluates what she provides and adapts her provision so that it continually reflects the needs of those children who attend. The childminder organises a broad range of well-planned activities for children and supports them to make good progress in their learning. Children are confident and independent from a young age. They move around the setting choosing what they want to do. They communicate their views to the childminder and she responds well to support their needs. Children are happy and enjoy the childminder's company. She forms good relationships

with them which supports their emotional well-being.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather enough detailed information from parents about what their children already know and can do before they start.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke with the children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents from the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe from harm. She knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder carries out safety checks each day and she supervises children well. She monitors children's progress and development, and this helps her to quickly identify any potential gaps in their learning and provide additional support if required. Partnerships with parents are good, overall. The childminder keeps her skills up to date. For example, she participates in webinars and shares ideas for activities and changes in legislation with other local childminders. This helps to sharpen her teaching skills and improve her knowledge further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children in her care well. She uses observation and assessment well to identify the achievements and progress children make. She incorporates a wide variety of play opportunities and experiences, taking into account children's interests and ideas. Children delight in exploring the musical instruments and creating different sounds as they bang the drum and shake the tambourine. Interactive toys add variety and also link in with the musical theme. For example, a child works out that each button makes different musical sounds. The childminder places a strong focus on promoting children's communication and language skills. She talks to children during their play to help them build on their vocabulary. She praises younger children as they repeat new words. This helps to promote children's language skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a homely and relaxed environment. She ensures that children's personal, social and emotional needs are well met. For example, she takes them to activities at local community groups and meets with other childminders. This gives children opportunities to engage with and develop relationships with other children. The childminder builds children's self-esteem effectively and gives meaningful praise for good behaviour and individual efforts. The strategies that the childminder uses take into account the age and level of understanding of the children. The childminder is effective in her approach to promoting good health. For instance, children have lots of opportunities for fresh air and exercise, and she provides a good range of nutritious meals and snacks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated to learn and develop the skills they need in readiness for school. They learn to share, take turns and become independent with their self-care needs. Children learn about mathematics through daily activities. They count objects and pictures in books and learn to recognise colours as they build with blocks. Children's literacy skills develop well. The childminder regularly takes children to the library to choose books. Younger children enjoy making marks with crayons and older children attempt to write some letters of their names.
