This provision is good
The childminder is attentive to children's individual needs. She supports their emotional development well through warm and affectionate care. Children are happy, confident and thoroughly enjoy their time at the childminder's home. The childminder knows children well. She observes them regularly and plans interesting activities that effectively support the next steps in their learning. The childminder uses positive and age-appropriate strategies to manage behaviour and gently reminds children about her expectations. Children learn to share, take turns and be kind to one another. The childminder regularly shares information with parents about their children. This helps to promote continuity of care. Testimonials from parents and older children are very complimentary about the childminder and the service she provides. The childminder evaluates her provision regularly and continually seeks ways to

improve her service. She seeks the views of parents and children, and makes effective changes that help to improve outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather detailed information from parents about what children can do when they first start, to help her plan more precisely for their learning from the very beginning. The childminder's questioning does not always successfully encourage children to think and solve problems independently.

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures her practice meets current requirements and keeps her knowledge up to date. She is confident with the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder assesses risks effectively and maintains a safe and secure environment. She is proactive in extending her professional knowledge and skills to extend her good practice continually. For example, recent training has increased her understanding of how to support children's early literacy skills. Children have since enjoyed a wide range of exciting mark-making opportunities, such as writing with mud and sticks, and drawing on different textures and surfaces. The childminder effectively monitors and assesses children's progress to help her meet their individual learning needs. She is able to spot any gaps in their learning easily. Where children need extra support, the childminder gives special attention to these areas
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans exciting opportunities for children to learn about the natural world. For example, children enjoy walks in local green spaces to spot seasonal creatures and objects. They learn about life cycles by observing caterpillars and frogspawn. The childminder takes account of children's individual interests when planning for their next steps. For instance, children practised counting while observing caterpillars and learned to use positional language while playing with toy insects. Children receive good support in their mathematical development. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills effectively. She models language well and introduces new words throughout the day. She enthusiastically acknowledges babies' babbles and gestures. Children are confident communicators.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form strong bonds with the caring childminder and enjoy one another's company. They demonstrate good social skills as they play together cooperatively. The childminder supports children's independence well. For example, children help to tidy toys, cut fruits at snack time and learn to put on their coats and shoes. The childminder promotes children's healthy lifestyles effectively. For instance, children enjoyed learning about healthy foods during story time. They enjoy regular opportunities to exercise and develop their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. Babies develop confidence as they freely explore in the safe environment and engage in new experiences. Children demonstrate good hand-to-eye coordination and small-muscle skills. For example, they confidently manipulate play-dough tools, construction bricks, and balance and build with interesting toys. Children show good levels of concentration and creativity in their chosen activities. They develop skills that prepare them well for their future learning and the move on to school.
