This provision is good
Staff are consistent in their approach to behaviour management. For example, they teach children the importance of using 'kind hands and words' as they play. Children behave well. The key-person system is effective. Staff work well with parents to help children to settle into nursery. Children are happy, arrive eager to learn and make good progress. Staff support children's health and well-being. They gently explain to babies when they are going to wipe their noses so they are fully aware of what is happening. Staff also teach the older children how to care for themselves, teaching them valuable life skills. Staff effectively supervise the children as they play. They are close at hand to offer support when they need it, for example, cutting up their lunch or helping them to put on their shoes when they struggle. This helps to support children's personal and social development well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff do not consistently adapt focused activities to help to support less-able children to understand what is happening during games. Tracking of groups of children is in its infancy. The provider has not fully identified all groups of children and areas to work on to narrow all gaps in their learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children in the main play areas. The inspector talked with the provider, staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector discussed with the provider how she reviews practice with the staff. The inspector took into account parents' views. The inspector sampled documents, including safeguarding, children's files and staff suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The provider and staff have a clear understanding of the procedures to take if they have any concerns regarding children's safety and well-being. The provider undertakes regular risk assessments and safety checks, to help to make sure all play areas are safe for the children. Staff listen well to the views of the parents and keep them informed of changes in the nursery. Recent changes have been to the security of the fence separating the front and back gardens. This helps to keep children safe. The provider works closely with staff to review practice. Recent training has helped staff to adapt sensory play. This has helped staff to adapt activities to support children's personal and social development. Staff work in good partnership with local schools, sharing children's progress. Teachers regularly attend the nursery to meet the children who will attend their school. This helps to provide good continuity of care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff work in good partnership with parents to help to support children's learning and development. Parents regularly share with staff activities from home, helping to inform staff's planning. Staff carry out good-quality teaching, helping to support children's learning and development well. The most able children enjoy learning how to play games. Staff explain the rules of the game well and the children learn to take turns and calculate simple sums. This helps to develop children's mathematical development. Younger children enjoy reading through their favourite books and anticipate the next part of the story. They excitedly pre-empt the actions that come next. This helps to develop children's early literacy skills and their physical development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The nursery is a warm and welcoming environment where staff meet children's individual needs well. They make sure they follow routines, such as sleep and giving bottles, to help the children to settle. Staff develop close bonds with the children and are close at hand to offer cuddles of reassurance. This helps to support children's self-esteem and confidence in trying new activities. For example, babies learning to walk show great excitement with their achievements and receive cuddles of encouragement from the staff. Older children develop good physical skills as they serve their own meals and learn how to use their knife and fork.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated learners and make good progress. The most able children are skilled in identifying and sounding out their written names, supporting their literacy development well. Older children are skilled in identifying countries and the weather they have. For example, they link cold weather with Antarctica and describe icebergs being 'big' and 'very cold'. This helps to support their language development well. Babies enjoy exploring new activities, such as messy play, showing great excitement as they feel the texture of shaving foam. Children are gaining the necessary skills for future learning and their subsequent moves to school.
