Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is committed to improving her skills. She uses her qualification and expertise to provide enriching and stimulating activities for children. The childminder keeps her practice up to date, for instance, by attending courses run by the local authority. She completed a course on supporting language development, which has led her to develop children's communication skills more effectively. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what to do if she has concerns regarding a child's welfare. She protects children from harm, for instance, by checking all parts of her home, and toys and resources to reduce the risk of accidents. The childminder has a good overview of her provision, which helps her to set clear goals to build ongoing improvement.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's language skills well. For instance, she sings lots of lively nursery rhymes and songs, teaching children new words as they follow the actions in the song. The childminder helps children to gain effective early literacy skills. For example, they take great interest in stories, interact well with story puppets and point to their favourite characters. The childminder questions children effectively. She supports their creative development well, for instance, by providing different tools and materials, including paint, paper and play dough, for them to explore. Children have good opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, they visit the local park each day with the childminder, where they climb, run, jump and learn to balance.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has close, caring relationships with the children. She interacts very warmly with them and values them very highly. Children settle well. The childminder takes time to get to know the children well and fully meets their emotional needs. She supports children to do things for themselves, such as feeding themselves and learning to dress themselves from a young age. The childminder teaches children good safety awareness. For instance, she talks with them about how to behave with care and caution when crossing the road, and children know to tidy away toys to prevent tripping hazards. Children develop healthy lifestyles. For example, the childminder takes them out each day for physical challenges and provides good, freshly prepared, nutritious meals and snacks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children know different shape names and have good counting skills. They concentrate well on tasks. Children are good at sharing and taking turns as they play with different toys. They learn to respect themselves and others from different cultural backgrounds. Children are confident and motivated to learn. They learn valuable skills for their future learning.
