This provision is good
The childminder is reflective of her practice and identifies areas for improvement precisely and in consultation with parents and children. Self-evaluation focuses effectively on improving outcomes for children. Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder successfully involves parents in children's learning to provide good levels of consistency. For example, she provides resources for parents to enjoy with their children at home to extend their learning. The childminder has a good understanding of child development. She makes accurate assessments of children's learning and plans interesting activities that support the next steps in their development well. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children form strong and affectionate attachments with the childminder and each other. She joins them in play enthusiastically, and they enjoy exploring activities and become
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently extend children's learning, for example, by encouraging them to explore new ways of doing things. There are fewer opportunities for children to extend their early reading skills when they choose to play outdoors.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder engaged in activities with children. The inspector observed children with the childminder and discussed their learning and development. The inspector talked to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents in written comments. The inspector looked at a range of documents, including children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs that might lead her to be concerned about a child's welfare. She is vigilant and clear about local safeguarding procedures. The childminder is well qualified and experienced in childcare, and continues to update her knowledge and skills conscientiously. For example, she carries out research so she can introduce new activities that keep children engaged and motivated to learn. The childminder monitors children's learning effectively to notice any gaps in their development. She works in effective partnership with other providers and outside agencies to provide children with consistency and help them to reach their full potential.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's learning and development effectively. She interacts positively with children so they develop good communication and language skills. For example, the childminder encourages babies to learn new words as they enjoy looking at their reflections in a mirror. She supports older children effectively as they talk about activities and explain what they are doing. They extend their sentences and become confident communicators. The childminder helps children to develop their mathematical skills and vocabulary well as they take part in activities. For example, she encourages them to count, identify shapes and compare sizes as they complete puzzles.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model, as she treats children with kindness and respects their views. She is clear about her expectations of good behaviour and gives gentle reminders for children to share toys and take turns during activities. Children behave well and older children are considerate towards the younger ones. The childminder helps children to adopt healthy lifestyles effectively. They enjoy nutritious snacks and benefit from daily physical exercise and fresh air. Children follow good hygiene routines. The childminder helps them to understand how to play safely by tidying away toys to minimise tripping hazards, for example. The childminder provides a good range of resources that reflects other cultures. Children benefit from visits to local places of interest where they find out about their own community and gain good social skills as they mix with others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain the skills they need for future learning and their eventual move on to school. They develop good levels of confidence and independence in managing their own self- care. Children concentrate well as they explore activities and resources. Babies enjoy using their senses and develop their curiosity. Older children persevere with activities and show pride in their achievements.
