Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues. She knows the procedure to follow should she have concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder undertakes daily safety checks to help reduce any potential hazards to keep children safe. Systems for self-evaluation are effective. This helps the childminder identify the strengths and weaknesses of the setting to ensure good outcomes for children. The childminder attends relevant training courses to help to extend her knowledge and skills. This helps contribute towards good teaching practice and has a positive impact on children's learning and development. Furthermore, the childminder meets with local childminders to share information and ideas to further develop her practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She carefully plans learning opportunities to build on children's skills. The childminder places a strong emphasis on children's mathematical development. For example, children explore shape, space and measurement as they fill containers with rice and corn. Furthermore, children enthusiastically play a colour-matching game with the childminder. This helps children to solve problems and concentrate for extended periods. Additionally, the childminder asks children questions, such as, 'How many more do you need?' This helps children to build on their thinking skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model. She is sensitive and caring to children's needs. The childminder encourages the children to share and take turns. She boosts children's self- esteem as she praises their efforts and achievements. Children develop an understanding of the world as they learn about the change in seasons. The childminder regularly takes the children to the community green opposite her home. The children investigate the sensory properties of fallen leaves and explore their colour, shape and size. Furthermore, children enjoy running around in the large open space, helping to develop their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning. They develop a solid foundation in readiness for starting school, particularly in mathematics. Children are eager and motivated to learn. They display good physical skills. For example, they skilfully pick up small items using tweezers during activities. This helps children to build the muscles in their hands in preparation for early handwriting. In addition, children develop good listening and attention skills.
