This provision is good
The childminder is experienced and knowledgeable. She conscientiously provides a quality home-from-home environment where children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder supports children's communication skills very effectively. She constantly talks to children about what they are doing and offers new words to extend their vocabulary. The childminder perceptively picks up on toddlers' non-verbal communication to meet their emotional and physical needs. The childminder knows children well. She closely observes children as they play. This helps her to make accurate assessments of their current developmental stage and to plan for what they need to learn next. Children behave very well in the care of the childminder. She adopts a positive and consistent approach, helping even very young children to learn what is expected of them.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not yet implemented consistent procedures to engage parents and children to support her in considering ways to review and evaluate the provision and enhance the quality even further. The childminder does not fully target her programme of professional development to help her raise the quality of teaching to the highest possible level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children during activities and assessed the impact these have on children's learning. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and spoke to children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other household members and looked at relevant documentation. The inspector took account of the views of parents from information provided by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly attends training that supports her knowledge of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child. She is fully aware of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse. The childminder places a high priority on children's safety. She vigilantly supervises children at all times. Risk assessments help the childminder to ensure that potential hazards to children are minimised. Partnerships with the local school that children attend are strong. The childminder shares information with class teachers to help children's learning to be consistent and consolidated. Parents express their delight in the care and learning opportunities that their children receive through letters and thank you cards.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is a good teacher. She understands the process through which children learn. The childminder follows children's interests and interacts appropriately in their play. For example, she joins in with a music-making activity, showing enthusiasm and pleasure. She shares their eagerness as together they decide which sounds they prefer. The childminder supports children's early technology awareness. She shows them how to push buttons and press knobs on a toy to initiate a variety of musical instruments. Children share a sense of fun and enjoyment as they build a tower of blocks with the childminder. She intersperses numeracy into the activity, counting the blocks as children place them on top of each other. Even very young children show persistence in their play. They happily engage in an activity and persevere until satisfied that the task has been completed. For instance, they match egg shapes together.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle in quickly and form secure and caring attachments with the childminder and her family. The childminder is calm and patient. Children demonstrate that they are happy and enjoy spending time in her care. They show that the surroundings are familiar to them as they confidently move around freely accessing toys of their choice. The childminder works closely with parents to ensure that children's individual needs are met, such as their sleep routines. Children benefit from opportunities to develop their physical skills. They learn to move their bodies in rhythm to music, which helps them to develop good coordination skills. The childminder takes children to local toddler groups where they can mix with other children. This supports their social and emotional development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress. The childminder understands the need to identify any gaps in children's learning and ensure that they are closed as swiftly as possible. Children show that they are enthusiastic learners. They demonstrate perseverance and embrace challenge. The childminder is supporting children to gain skills that will assist them in the next stage or their learning and eventual move to school.
