This provision is good
Children are happy and confident in the childminder's home. The children's views are valued by the childminder. Children are given many opportunities to choose their own resources, activities, meals and snacks. The childminder knows the children and families in her care very well. Children are well cared for, as the childminder knows their likes, dislikes and individual needs. The childminder has a strong relationship with the nursery that children also attend. Children's learning is shared between both settings, providing a consistent approach to the children's development. The childminder plans a broad range of exciting activities that meets the learning needs of the children and challenges them to learn new skills in all areas of their development. Children make good progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not sufficiently developed ways of gathering information about children's achievements at home, to better support her planning procedures. The childminder does not always give the children full opportunities to practise using various tools and equipment.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the setting. The inspector looked at samples of children's records and other documentation, including policies and procedures. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' and other professionals' views through written feedback provided on the day. The inspector had a tour of the areas of the setting used for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder shows a strong desire to improve. Parents' and children's views form an integral part of the evaluation process. Following recent evaluation, the childminder has introduced an allotment in her garden. Children are involved in growing and caring for fruit and vegetables. The childminder uses this to encourage them to try new foods and learn about growth and decay. The childminder is committed to her own professional development. Her recent training on preparing children for school has helped her to teach the children skills for the future. This helps her to better prepare them for their transition to school. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements rigorous safety procedures to ensure that children are cared for in a safe environment.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's assessment of children's learning is thorough. The childminder uses this information to identify gaps and carefully plan activities to enable children to progress well in all areas of their development. Children learn early writing skills as they develop their pencil control through creative activities. They practise writing their name on their completed artwork and copy letters that they spot in the childminder's home. The childminder extends children's understanding of the world. For example, she helps children to learn about animals and their young during an Easter activity. The childminder enables the children to explore their creative skills as they choose how to decorate their Easter basket from a wide variety of resources and materials.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children share a close bond with the childminder. They feel secure and settle quickly into her home. Children frequently invite the childminder to join in their play or to share a story. They snuggle in with her as she reads the book. The childminder is a positive role model for the children. She sets clear expectations for children's behaviour and children behave well. The childminder builds the children's confidence and self-esteem by praising them for their achievements. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. The childminder provides a variety of healthy meals for the children, encouraging them to try new foods and make healthy choices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress in all areas of their development and they achieve the milestones typical for their age. They leave the childminder's care well prepared for the next stage in their learning. Children become independent as they cut up fruit for pudding, put on their shoes and coats for outdoors and take care of their own personal hygiene. Children learn early reading skills as they recognise the letters in their name and various letters in the environment.
