This provision is good
The childminder monitors the quality of her provision effectively and seeks the views of parents to help develop her service. This helps her to achieve and maintain good standards of care and learning. The childminder provides effective strategies to help children to communicate in and develop good English speaking skills. This contributes to the good progress that all children make. Children have good opportunities to learn outdoors. For example, children enjoy and engage with a range of activities in the childminder's garden. This regular access to fresh air also helps to promote children's physical well-being. The childminder establishes warm relationships with children. They quickly settle into her setting and show that they are happy and secure. Their emotional well-being is well supported.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children have inconsistent opportunities to learn about people from other communities. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities for children to increase their awareness and use of their home language.

Inspection activities
The inspector reviewed documents, including children's learning records, the suitability of household members and evidence of professional development. The inspector jointly observed and discussed a children's activity with the childminder. The inspector assessed the quality of interactions between the childminder and children, and the impact of these on children's learning. The inspector viewed areas of the childminder's home that children use, inside and outdoors. The inspector considered the views of parents as part of the inspection visit.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder evaluates her provision well. She reflects on her practice and takes steps to further develop her service, such as establishing good links with other practitioners. She implements ideas to enhance the involvement of parents in children's learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes training to update her safeguarding knowledge and is aware of the potential risks posed to children. She knows how to report to relevant agencies if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder maintains a strong partnership with the local school. This helps to support continuity of care and learning for children in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers initial and ongoing information from parents that help her to build on children's previous experiences and interests. She regularly shares her accurate assessments of children's learning and works closely with parents to address potential gaps in children's learning and development. The childminder helps children to develop good mathematical skills. For example, she counts in English and Portuguese as babies begin to recognise numerals on puzzle pieces. She supports children to learn about their natural environment. For instance, she speaks with them about strawberries and the colours they change to before being ready to pick and eat.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder builds warm relationships with children and their parents. The childminder tailors her service to meet the individual needs of parents and children, and maintains a good two-way flow of information. She provides good support to help children express themselves in positive ways and they respond well to her instructions. The childminder encourages children to develop increasing independence and good self-care skills. For example, toddlers carefully peel satsumas without assistance and help her to tidy away. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to use their imaginations, and they share and negotiate during role play. The childminder provides sensitive support for children as they deal with change. This helps to support children's emotional well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good progress. Babies confidently practise using their physical skills as they attempt to walk up slides. Toddlers share toys with their younger friends as they play. Older children communicate their needs and feelings, and take care of their personal care needs. Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning and for moves to school.
