Effectiveness of the leadership and management Requires improvement Quality of teaching, learning and assessment Requires improvement Personal development, behaviour and welfare Requires improvement Outcomes for children Requires improvement

p.1

This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:

 The childminder has addressed the issues raised at the last inspection in relation to her awareness of the requirements of the early years foundation stage, first aid and risk assessments. However, weaknesses still remain in her practice.  Children are not supported to make enough progress to prepare them for the next steps in their learning. The childminder does not plan a wide enough range of challenging activities or build on the interests of children to help them to become involved in their self-chosen play. This means their learning opportunities are limited.  The childminder does not take reasonable steps to provide opportunities for children to develop and use their home language in play and learning.  Behaviour is at times disruptive. The childminder and her assistant do not provide enough stimulation for children to maintain their attention. This results in them becoming bored.  The childminder and her assistant have not identified ongoing professional

development opportunities to improve the quality of their teaching, raise their knowledge and skills further and raise outcomes for children.

p.1

It has the following strengths

 Children enjoy freshly prepared meals each day that take into account their individual dietary needs and preferences. Mealtimes are social occasions. Children develop independence and competently use cutlery.

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage the provider must:

p.2

p.2

p.2

Due Date

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Due Date

 consistently engage in available continuous professional development opportunities to ensure knowledge is kept up to date and teaching skills are improved.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities inside and outdoors and assessed the impact on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at documentation required for the efficient running of the childminder's provision.  The inspector read written feedback from other parents and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Children play in a safe and secure environment. The childminder assesses all areas of her home and garden and takes appropriate action to minimise potential risks to ensure children remain safe. The childminder and her assistant are aware of the local child protection referral procedures. They are fully aware of the signs that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. The childminder has a good understanding of significant events or changes that must be notified to Ofsted. The childminder and her assistants hold paediatric first-aid certificates and deal with accidents appropriately. The childminder works in partnership with parents to ensure that she meets children's individual care needs. The childminder has not given consideration to professional development opportunities for herself or her assistant to help improve outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement

While the childminder plans focused activities, such as making play dough each week, she does not take into account learning outside of these moments. This impacts on children's progress. Children enjoy sensory experiences. For example, they feel the flour when they make play dough and how it changes when they add water to it. The childminder encourages younger children to feel the flour before and after adding the water. However, their time involved in this is limited and they spend time watching the older children playing while sitting on the childminder's knee. At times, children move around aimlessly as resources are not readily available. Children enjoy role play. For example, they babble into a pretend mobile phone. However, the childminder does not use information about children's home languages to support their communication skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement

Children's behaviour is not promoted consistently well. Children do not have enough stimulation through the use of resources and activities to maintain their interest. This results in them having disagreements and fighting over resources. The childminder and her assistant do not pre-empt or respond in a timely manner to minimise these situations occurring. The childminder meets children's personal care needs and incorporates their routines into the day. Children enjoy being physically active; they enjoy being outdoors. Older children confidently use wheeled toys to move around the garden. However, the lack of planning to promote children's learning continues outdoors. The childminder and her assistant carry younger children around a lot rather than engaging them in play. This impacts on their learning opportunities.

p.3

Outcomes for children require improvement

Children develop basic skills that support them in readiness for the move on to school. However, they do not make enough progress due to weaknesses in planning. Children re- enact known experiences, such as pretending to make telephone calls on a pretend mobile phone. They use different resources, for example, bricks to build with.
