This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities and manages her setting well. She works well in partnership with parents. The childminder promotes a continuous, two-way flow of information that helps her to promote continuity of care for each child. The childminder gets to know children very well. She provides experiences that she knows children will enjoy. The childminder encourages children to discuss their home lives and experiences outside of her setting to support their emotional development. Children enjoy playing with the childminder and seek her out to join in with their games. The childminder encourages children to choose what they would like to do and follow their own interests. Children progress well from their starting points. They are developing the skills required to prepare them for their next stage of learning and the eventual move on to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not evaluate the quality of teaching rigorously enough to inform her future professional development more precisely. The childminder does not consistently plan adult-led activities meticulously enough to ensure that she promotes the best possible learning outcomes.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector reviewed parents' written feedback. The inspector observed activities in the indoor area. She evaluated the quality of teaching with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times and reviewed relevant documentation, including evidence of her suitability and qualifications.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities. She knows how to report concerns relating to children's welfare to the correct local agencies. She has undertaken appropriate training to refresh and extend her knowledge of wider child protection issues. The childminder has an accurate understanding of the quality of her service. She seeks the views of parents and children through observation, discussion and questionnaires. The childminder makes good use of this information to inform her development plans. The childminder monitors children's progress well. She readily identifies gaps in children's learning and promptly secures support to address them. The childminder maintains a good relationship with her local authority advisors to keep her knowledge up to date.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. The childminder chats to children as they play to develop their vocabulary successfully. For example, she helps young children to identify different foods as they pretend to cook a meal during role play. The childminder observes children regularly and monitors their development. She allows children to explore activities to their own satisfaction. For example, young children enjoy pushing different kinds of cars down a tube. The childminder encourages children to identify the colour of the cars and which car travelled the furthest. The childminder narrates children's play as they continue to experiment with ways to move the cars along the tube.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children feel comfortable and happy at the childminder's home. The childminder uses risk assessment effectively to minimise the potential risk of harm to children. She enforces hygiene routines and uses age-appropriate explanations to develop children's understanding of why these are important. The childminder is fully aware of children's individual routines and follows these well. This helps children to understand what will happen next and promotes their welfare successfully. The childminder encourages children to socialise at local playgroups. She provides appropriate experiences that support children's developing understanding of the wider world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are polite and have good social skills. They use manners appropriately and willingly follow instructions. Children take responsibility for tasks, such as tidying up and washing their hands before meals. Children have good levels of self-esteem and positive attitudes towards learning.
