This provision is good

 Children are extremely happy, confident and well behaved. They develop excellent social skills. The childminder successfully promotes their emotional development and has an exceptionally caring approach to meeting their individual needs.  The childminder encourages children to lead their own play and knows when to offer further challenge to extend their learning. She follows children's own interests well and provides toys to support these. Children make good progress in their learning.  Children develop good mathematical language during activities and experiences. They receive good support from the childminder. For example, she encourages them to count and look at shape during play as they talk about 'blue hearts' and 'green feathers'.  Partnerships with parents are superb. There is great emphasis on the regular sharing of information and actively promoting parental involvement in their children's learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always use her assessments of children's learning precisely enough to help them make better than good progress.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder ensures that she keeps up to date to help her maintain a strong understanding of her role and responsibilities in keeping children safe. She understands how to protect children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas or views. The childminder knows where to report any concerns she may have about a child in the event of a safeguarding concern. The childminder is committed to providing children with high-quality care and learning. She uses her self-evaluation effectively to reflect on areas of improvement. The childminder engages in professional development to improve her practice and outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding about how children learn and follows their individual interests well. For example, she provides a supportive environment where children can follow their own ideas and imaginations. Children enjoy imaginative play using cars and dolls. The childminder asks purposeful questions which encourage children to think about and communicate their ideas. These help to develop their thinking and speaking skills. The childminder uses activities to challenge the children to build on their mathematical understanding. For example, she asks children how many cars they have altogether, counting up to 10 and beyond.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children behave exceptionally well and respond extremely positively to the childminder's high expectations. Children are delighted to take part in an extremely wide range of activities based on different festivals. This helps them to learn the importance of each other's views and opinions. The childminder provides a wealth of opportunities for children to enjoy fresh air and exercise. Children very eagerly explore their local environment and nature. They delight in visiting the local woodland and park, where the childminder skilfully challenges them to develop excellent physical skills. The childminder reinforces the importance of eating well and being healthy during well-planned routines. Children are extremely polite, friendly and well mannered. They demonstrate very high levels of self- esteem. Children relish the praise and encouragement that the childminder provides in abundance.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in their learning and gain skills that they need in readiness for the next stage in their learning, such as starting school. Children are excited to learn and relish opportunities to take part in activities to build on what they know and can do. For instance, they learn how to use glitter and glue correctly. Children are extremely active and understand they have choices in their play.
