This provision is good
Children are eager to join in with activities and approach their play with confidence and enthusiasm. The childminder is experienced and has a good understanding of how children learn through play. The childminder is extremely kind and caring in her approach. Children form secure emotional attachments with the childminder, go to her for cuddles regularly and invite her into their play. Children benefit from regular trips to places, such as the library, trips on the bus, the park and toddler groups. This helps children to develop their social skills and to learn about the community and environment around them. The childminder works closely with parents. She keeps them informed about their child's progress and shares ideas with them to support further children's learning at home. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder and the care she provides. The childminder uses assessments effectively and closely monitors the progress

children make. All children make good progress in their learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not give children enough time to think and respond to questions. The childminder does not make the most of the outdoor area to extend further the all- round development of those children who prefer to learn outdoors.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children engaged in activities with the childminder. The inspector was given a tour of all areas of the house used for childminding. The inspector spoke to the children and childminder at appropriate times during the inspection, and took account of the views of parents. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's learning records, a sample of policies and procedures, and evidence of suitability of adults living in the household.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows the signs that may lead her to be concerned about a child's welfare and knows the correct procedures to follow to keep children safe from harm. The childminder extends her professional development. She attends regular training. For example, recent training in mathematics has given the childminder more confidence to develop children's mathematical skills through using more mathematical language during play activities. The childminder evaluates her practice effectively and works closely with parents, and other childminders, to help develop her practice. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments of her home and for outings, to minimise risks and to keep children safe from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular observations of children and identifies their next steps in learning well. She provides good support to encourage children's love of early reading. For example, children choose freely from a range of books and snuggle up with the childminder who reads to them. She helps children to develop their concentration and attention, and they stay highly engaged during numerous stories. The childminder uses activities that children are interested in to help them learn. For instance, she uses children's love of cars to promote their imaginations and their mathematical skills. They count how many parking spaces there are for their toy cars to go into.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers a friendly environment, where children are relaxed. The childminder provides children with lots of praise and celebrates their achievements, developing their self-esteem and confidence. For instance, children are congratulated when they tidy up without any prompting. The childminder engages children in conversations about their food and the benefits of eating a balanced diet. She teaches children how to use knives safely as they prepare their healthy snacks and lunch. Children behave extremely well and show care and consideration for their friends. For example, one child helps another child to rebuild a car track that has broken. The childminder promotes children's independence well, encouraging them to try to things on their own before stepping in to assist.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children acquire positive attitudes towards learning and develop essential skills in readiness for their eventual move on to school. Children gain good early literacy skills. They identify letters in their names and develop their early writing skills. Children develop strong physical skills. They show good hand-to-eye coordination when cutting paper with scissors.
