The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children indoors and outdoors. The inspector viewed a range of documents, including the childminder's paediatric first- aid certificate, other training certificates, and her policies and procedures. The inspector took into account some written views of parents and feedback forms completed by children and parents. The inspector viewed the parts of the premises used for childminding.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough understanding of her responsibility to protect the children in her care and knows the signs to look for and procedures to follow if a child is at risk. The childminder has undertaken a wide range of training courses to keep her knowledge up to date and continue her professional development. She is committed to improving her practice and her self-evaluation takes into account the views of parents and children. The childminder provides an inclusive setting where children gain awareness of different cultures, religions and festivals that are celebrated throughout the world. Children find out about Easter and enjoy craft activities making brightly coloured Easter eggs, which they proudly display at the front door.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is skilled in helping children to develop their early language skills. She patiently allows them time to repeat single words or to answer her questions. She monitors children's progress at regular intervals and provides activities and opportunities to ensure that they make good progress and master new skills. Children enjoy opportunities to play instruments and discuss colours while they delight in the music they make. The childminder demonstrates how to play the drum and children excitedly play the xylophone and the shakers. The childminder incorporates a wide range of teaching strategies to promote children's learning. For example, she models how to close an egg container together and shows children how instructions are used to help them fix broken weighing scales. The childminder works in joint partnership with parents, encouraging them to share what they know their child can do when they first start.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave very well and the childminder teaches them to share and take turns, reinforcing their good behaviour. Children display good manners and are polite. They are respectful of the toys and equipment, tidying items away after using them. The childminder gives children choices throughout the day and encourages them to be independent. Children happily choose the colour of their plate and mug at snack time and clap their hands delightedly when they correctly name the colours of their fruit. Children understand the importance of good hygiene practices and wash their hands before meals. The childminder provides children with opportunities to play outdoors in all weather, which they thoroughly enjoy and gain a great sense of achievement.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are enthusiastic learners and take part in a wide range of challenging activities. Children develop good social skills as they play and interact with different children. They are confident communicators who are motivated to learn. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including school.
