This provision is good

 The childminder is warm and caring and takes lots of time with children to help them to settle into the provision. This helps children to develop close emotional attachments. Outcomes for children are good.  The childminder meaningfully praises children's efforts to try something new. This helps children have a high regard for one another, to behave well and to develop good friendships with others around them.  The childminder develops strong open relationships with the parents. She keeps them updated about their child's progression at the provision. She also includes parents and their children in the self-evaluation processes. This helps her to identify any training needs and targets on which to focus to help improve her provision further.  The childminder has good relationships with other providers, including the local schools. The information sharing between all parties helps her to promote consistency

and continuity for all children on roll.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although children access the garden throughout the day, the childminder does not successfully organise space and equipment as well as possible to fully enhance children's growing physical skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase the opportunities provided for children to use the space and available equipment effectively and further build on their overall physical development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection and took account of the views of parents through the written feedback they provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder completes child protection training and knows what to do and who to contact should she have any concerns about the children. The childminder assesses possible hazards and risks to children's safety throughout the provision. She closely supervises children during indoor and outdoor play. This helps to keep children safe. The childminder monitors the educational programme. This helps her to make sure children are progressing well across all areas of their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder spends much of her time following the children's lead. She uses commentary and a range of questions to help promote children's thinking and problem- solving skills. For example, she provides a range of ingredients in a tray and encourages children to use their senses and talk about their findings. The childminder helps children to think about what would happen if the ingredients were mixed and then shows them what this looks like using the computer. This helps to promote children's understanding about the world around them. The childminder provides a range of resources for children to play with that depicts positive images of diversity. Children are well-supported by the childminder to explore similarities and differences between themselves and their friends and others in the local and wider community. This helps children to develop empathy for others.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder makes sure that children have healthy snacks and drinks of water each day. She ensures that children's dietary requirements are recorded and acknowledged at all times. Children enjoy going on nature walks and running around with their friends on the field when it snows. They know to wash the germs from their hands before eating. Children learn to keep themselves safe as they practise the fire evacuation procedure with the childminder. The childminder encourages children to learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children develop the skills they need for their move on to the next stage of learning, including their move to school. They like to read their favourite books in the comfy book area with their friends. The organisation of indoor resources enables children to develop independence. Children make marks and use resources and tools, including paints, crayons and chalks. They enjoy having their work displayed on the walls.
