This provision is good
Children share wonderful relationships with the childminder. They feel secure and the childminder inspires their willingness to try new things. The childminder regards children as unique individuals and she plans experiences that are precisely linked to their interests and levels of development. The childminder gives children small physical challenges and provides support to help them succeed. This helps to build their motivation to carry out simple tasks independently. Children make good progress from their starting points. They are guided to develop the skills and attitudes to become keen and independent learners from an early age. The childminder knows how to prepare children for school when the time comes. The childminder is dedicated to working with parents to enhance children's experiences. Parents commend the high quality of care and support for children's learning that the childminder provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not focus her professional development precisely enough to help raise her teaching skills to the highest level. The childminder has not yet established effective communication with other settings that children attend.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector jointly evaluated a teaching activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to children and parents during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and discussed self-evaluation. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of adults living at the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role in safeguarding. She knows what may cause her concern about a child's welfare and how to contact the relevant authorities. Children are well supervised and effective risk assessment procedures help to protect children from harm. The childminder is keen to improve her own practice and overall, she has prioritised areas for her own development. Her self-evaluation is clear and effective. She liaises with the local authority for support and follows advice given. For example, she has enhanced her observation, assessment and planning systems to more accurately track children's development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder carefully observes and assesses children to monitor their progress. She uses information gathered to precisely tailor support and help individual children to develop. Parents are kept very well informed about their children's learning and the childminder helps them to guide learning at home. She knows what to do if children have any gaps in learning, including liaising with external agencies. The childminder provides an enticing and age-appropriate environment for young children. She uses a variety of effective strategies to encourage the development of their communication and language skills. For example, she listens to what children say and responds using the correct form of words for them to hear. The childminder is mindful about giving children time to respond. She joins in with children's role play, following their lead and valuing their ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is highly nurturing with children. She is skilled in building children's confidence and consistently strengthens their emotional well-being. The childminder values the knowledge that parents have and works closely with them to settle children when they begin to attend. For example, she communicates frequently with parents to gather ongoing information about children's routines, preferences and experience. The childminder encourages children's independence through daily routines. Mealtimes are valuable learning experiences. Children learn about healthy eating and they practise their physical skills. For example, children are guided to use a knife to spread butter as they make their own sandwiches for lunch. The childminder ensures that children have daily access to the outdoors. Children enjoy going for walks, visiting the local park and hunting for bugs in the woods.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and talkative. They enjoy making their own choices in their play and they show high levels of engagement. Children seek the childminder out to share in their fun. They engage in new sensory activities alongside the childminder and grow in confidence to explore beyond their comfort zones. Children are well behaved for their ages and respond well to clear routines. They learn to manage self-care tasks, such as handwashing independently. They are motivated to take on small responsibilities, such as sweeping up.
