This provision is good

 The childminder observes what children can do and uses her knowledge of children's interests well to plan a good range of activities that supports their development. Children make good progress in their learning.  Children behave well. For example, the childminder recognises their achievements and encourages them to play well with others. Children confidently join in the activities, and learn to share and use manners.  Children develop a good understanding of what contributes to a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy regular physical activities in the fresh air to promote a healthy lifestyle, and enjoy nutritious meals and snacks.  Children form close emotional attachments with the childminder and have good relationships with their friends. The childminder meets children's emotional needs well.  The childminder has a good knowledge of how to safeguard children. She is confident about the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder occasionally misses opportunities to take the lead from the children's ideas and suggestions in their play, to extend their motivation and interest even further.  The childminder does not extend children's understanding of numbers and counting further, to offer them greater mathematical challenges.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 offer more consistent support to children's ideas and suggestions to help them make even more choices and decisions in their play, and to extend their motivation to learn  increase opportunities to extend children's early mathematical understanding of numbers and counting.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the impact of teaching on children's learning.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder and engaged with the children.  The inspector looked at a selection of documentation.  The inspector discussed self-evaluation and observations of the children's play, learning and progress with the childminder and evaluated an activity with her.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder maintains a secure and safe environment. She implements policies and procedures, and risk assessments, successfully to maintain children's safety and well-being. Since registration, the childminder continues to develop how she tracks, monitors, reviews and plans for children's progress well overall. For example, she has moved to an online assessment system to further engage and share information with parents well about their children's progress. The childminder attends training and liaises with other childminders to develop her practice and teaching skills further. For instance, she has developed a greater understanding of the links between children's brain development, emotions and supporting the management of their behaviour.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder enthusiastically engages with the children and supports their language well. For example, she encourages them to listen, repeats words correctly and skilfully asks questions to support their vocabulary. The childminder enriches the children's knowledge of the wider world and talks about their experiences. The childminder encourages children's explorations and they feel different textures. They learn to compare, measure and decide what natural materials to use for the Easter rabbit's habitat. The childminder uses themes and tracks children's progress successfully. Activities focus well overall on the children's next steps and they eagerly participate and experiment with chalk and make marks outdoors. Children receive good support to recognise their photograph and identify sounds associated to their name, for instance, as they self-register on arrival.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder teaches children about potential dangers well, for example, so younger children learn to walk down the stairs safely. They hold the banister and they sit on a chair securely, without this tipping. They participate in fire evacuation procedures and engage in safe procedures for outings with the childminder. Children enjoy fresh air and exercise. For instance, they develop good physical skills manoeuvring the wheeled toys and pedalling the tricycle. They visit places of interest to learn about the wider world with the childminder. Children enjoy a balanced diet of nutritious meals and snacks, and confidently share that water is good for their body.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good skills in preparation for their next stage in learning and in readiness for school. Children are relaxed, happy and show increasing confidence and interest in learning. They develop good independence and a strong awareness of their personal care. For example, they wipe their nose, wash their hands and put on their coat to play outdoors. Children are sociable and become familiar with letter sounds and colours, and enjoy using tools to make marks.
