Previous inspection: Requires Improvement

p.1

The provision does not meet requirements

 The childminder has not been effective in tackling some of the weaknesses raised at the previous inspection. As a result, the quality of practice has declined.  The childminder has started to complete assessments of children’s progress. However, these assessments are unreliable and do not give an accurate picture of what children know and can do. The childminder is also unaware of the requirement to complete a progress check for children aged between two and three years.  The childminder has insufficient knowledge of child protection procedures. She has not kept her knowledge up to date and she is unaware of the latest guidelines. Therefore, she cannot promote children’s welfare effectively.  The childminder understands that children learn through play and she provides activities that children enjoy. For example, the childminder understands that singing games and imaginative play help children to develop their creativity.

p.1

The provision does not meet requirements

 The childminder understands the importance of partnership working. She works closely with parents to support children’s individual care needs such as potty training. The childminder also keeps parents up to date on all aspects of their children’s day.  The childminder provides a homely environment. All required safety features, such as smoke detectors, are in good working order. The childminder also understands how to help children learn about safety. They practise the fire drill on a regular basis and she reminds children to take care when they are jumping ‘like a kangaroo’.  The childminder is accurate in her self-evaluation. She is acutely aware that significant improvements are needed. She has set targets to help her improve, which include obtaining a copy of the ‘Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage’ and seeking immediate support from the local authority.

p.1

The provision does not meet requirements

There were no children present when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children present, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states whether the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
