This provision is good
The childminder has established strong working partnerships with early years professionals and teachers from the local schools children attend. This helps to promote a more collaborative approach to children's learning and development. The childminder evaluates her practice, encouraging feedback from parents and children to help her to identify areas to develop and improve further. The childminder takes children on a wide range of outings in the community. They go to local parks, playgroups and music and rhyme sessions. These experiences help children to understand their local community, develop social skills and understand the world around them. The childminder is kind and caring. She forms strong relationships with children and attends to their needs promptly. Children demonstrate good levels of self-esteem and thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder is aware of children's capabilities and achievements, she does not use robust monitoring systems to recognise and quickly address any possible gaps in their learning. The childminder does not focus sharply enough on her professional development, to help raise the quality of her provision to the highest level.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke with the children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents from the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is very clear and confident about her role in ensuring children's safety and their overall welfare. She regularly updates her knowledge of safeguarding by attending training and knows who to contact in the event of a concern about a child. The childminder is vigilant about safety. She checks her home daily to ensure it is safe and suitable for children. Children are well supervised at all times. Parents are complimentary about childminder and comment on her professional approach, the support she provides and the progress their children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. Overall, she observes and assesses children's progress well and shares this information with parents. She provides a good range of interesting activities to support children's learning and build on their interests. For example, the childminder and children created a woodland scene using natural objects they had found during their walks. The childminder effectively supports children's language and literacy development. She engages them in conversation and gives them time to respond. While reading she makes sure that children can see the storybook and uses a clear voice with expression to hold their interest. The childminder uses every opportunity to include discussions about numbers and counting as children play and follow daily routines. For example, they count aloud as they climb the stairs and enthusiastically engage in number songs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are cared for in a welcoming and very well-resourced home environment. The childminder's kind, caring and nurturing approach helps young children to develop a close bond with her. She gives children regular praise for their achievements which helps to promote their good behaviour and self-esteem. The childminder is effective in her approach to promoting good health. For instance, children have lots of opportunities for fresh air and exercise, and the childminder provides a good range of nutritious meals and snacks. Children have a good awareness of following hygiene practices, including the need to wash their hands before meals and after using the toilet. They learn about keeping safe when they walk to and from school and when they go on outings.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are learning skills necessary for their future learning, such as their eventual move on to school. They confidently lead their own play and demonstrate good listening and attention skills. Children learn to count and recognise colours. They enjoy looking at books, listening to stories and singing nursery rhymes. Children are eager to participate in activities and make independent choices from a range of resources and play materials.
