This provision is good

 The manager and staff have made significant improvements to address all issues raised at the last inspection. Children's safety is paramount. Effective steps have been taken to ensure children play in a safe environment. Potential hazards have been identified and steps taken to minimise them.  Required documentation are in place. The manager maintains records well and has put processes in place to regularly review and keep them up to date, as required.  Children enjoy a wide variety of activities that stimulates their natural curiosity to learn. Resources are plentiful and children use them to support their play, especially their imaginations.  Partnerships with parents are good. Staff work closely with parents to share their child's progress and development. They encourage parents to contribute and share their child's interests and achievements at home.  Monitoring of staff's practice is effective. Staff have opportunities for appraisals and

regular supervision meetings to identify their strengths and consider how they can improve their performance.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The manager and staff do not always make the most of professional development opportunities to further develop their good practice.  Routines for gathering information about children's home language to use in nursery, in order to engage children and aide communication are not wholly successful.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 consistently engage in available, continuous professional development opportunities to keep knowledge up to date and to improve teaching skills to an even higher level  review systems for gathering information about children's home language, and use the information to engage children and support their communication skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching through activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspection completed a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager, viewed required documentation and checked the suitability of adults working in the setting.  The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff fully understand their role in protecting children from harm and neglect, and following the local referral procedures. Security in the setting is good. Staff remain vigilant to the safety of the children and take steps to ensure that they cannot leave the setting unsupervised. Self-evaluation is effective. The views of parents and children are obtained to help inform this process to continually enhance the provision. Parents are very happy with the service. They especially appreciate the time made available to discuss their children's development with staff.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enthusiastically engage in play and use their imaginations well. They talk excitedly about the visiting circus. They express themselves with delight by showing off their circus skills to the staff and their peers, for example, jumping like a kangaroo, balancing a large hoop on their nose and throwing beanbags through the hoop onto a target. Staff support children's play when invited by them, announcing the different skills they are about to perform. The performance is closely watched by their peers, who cheer loudly in appreciation. Children explore how materials change. For example, they add pretend snow crystals to their water play and talk about how the two materials react when mixed together. Children include glitter to add a new dimension. Children work cohesively with their friends. They enjoy constructing towers and can identify peers that are taller than they are, prompting discussion about size and difference.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff use detailed information they gain from parents and meet children's individual care needs well. Children enjoy healthy snacks. Staff work closely with parents to support their understanding of healthy foods. They make suggestions of foods to provide for a nutritionally valuable packed lunch for their child. Children are very active. They create their own races outdoors and enjoy using different resources, such as wheeled toys which they steer and manoeuvre around different obstacles. Children develop confidence and high levels of self-esteem. They learn the importance of valuing the views of others and listen to what each other has to say. Children learn about diversity and the wider world. Children have opportunities to learn to speak in French. They enjoy learning the names of colours in French, recognising them in books and resources, and match them to colours in the environment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They independently lead their own play, make choices and follow their own interests. Children make marks, and learn to recognise letters that form their names and that link to familiar objects. They are active learners and maintain high levels of engagement. They explore full, empty, more and less than through activities, such as water and pretend snow play. Children develop essential skills for their learning and for the future move to school.
