This provision is good
The childminder gets to know children's individual personalities well. She helps children to settle quickly and happily into their play. Children have a positive level of well-being. Children have good opportunities to explore and investigate. For instance, children enjoy carrying out regular nature and bug hunts using magnifying glasses. The childminder establishes positive partnerships with other professionals. For example, she regularly shares children's achievements with other settings children also attend. This helps provide them with a good, consistent approach to their shared care and learning. The childminder effectively evaluates her current practice. For instance, she reflects on the day's events and how well activities motivated children to learn. The childminder uses her findings to support her plans to help keep children engaged in their play. Children have good opportunities to develop their early mathematical skills to support

their future learning. For example, children confidently count as they play. There are good opportunities for children to challenge their physical skills. For instance, they explore different ways to move as they confidently use tree swings with support.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most out of opportunities to encourage children to develop their creative skills and freely express themselves more extensively. The childminder misses some opportunities to extend children's interest and understanding of technology even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home that children use. The inspector observed the childminder interacting with the children and assessed the impact this has on their learning and progress. The inspector sampled written documentation, such as progress reports of children and policies and procedures. The inspector spoke to children and the childminder at convenient times. The inspector reviewed evidence to ensure the suitability of the household members at the setting address.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is keen to develop her skills even further and keep her knowledge up to date. For example, she attends regular training that she finds beneficial to help her continue to improve her practice. The childminder has learned about the different ways that children play. She establishes positive relationships with parents and keeps them informed and involved in their children's progress. For instance, she encourages parents to have regular input into their children's learning records and share achievements from home. This helps provide children with a good, consistent approach to their care and learning opportunities. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the safeguarding and child protection procedures to follow to help protect children's safety and welfare. This includes knowing whom to contact to raise concerns and seek additional advice. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, they

participate in challenging learning activities with good maturity, such as pond-dipping activities.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder closely monitors the progress of children. This helps her to quickly identify any gaps in their development. She provides good support to help children close any gaps in their development and catch up in their learning. The childminder effectively helps prepare children for their eventual move to school. For example, they enjoy a wide range of reading materials. The childminder skilfully builds on children's spontaneous ideas. For example, children who enjoy playing with the farm are encouraged to read a story about animals and match them to the correct animal sounds and habitats in which they live.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a positive role model. Children are polite and behave well. Children gain a good understanding of healthy eating and lifestyles. For instance, the childminder discusses the importance of healthy foods at mealtimes. Children confidently meet their own needs, for example, choosing to engage in active play, such as football, or calmer activities, such as puzzles. Children gain a good understanding for other people's similarities and differences in the wider world. For example, they learn about traditions of other countries, such as using chopsticks and trying Chinese food to celebrate Chinese New Year.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children of all ages make good progress in relation to their individual starting points. They learn good skills to support their future learning. Children are independent and confidently choose their own play. Children develop good early writing skills and give meaning to the marks they make as they draw. Children learn about the world around them and they are caring and kind. For instance, they enjoy having an active role in grooming and feeding the childminder's horse.
