This provision is good
The childminder uses effective teaching methods to help children develop essential skills that support their learning and prepare them for nursery and school. The childminder uses her observations well to plan age-appropriate activities in all areas of learning, and effectively plans for children's next steps in development. The childminder forms strong bonds with the children and makes sure they feel secure in her care. She is very caring and supportive, and consistently interacts with children positively. Children behave well and develop positive attitudes towards others. The childminder establishes good relationships with parents and other professionals at settings the children may also attend. for children. The childminder regularly reflects on her own professional development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, there are missed learning opportunities for some adult-led focused activities. The childminder does not seek regular feedback from parents to contribute to her systems of self-evaluation, to build further on the good service she provides.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, including required assessments completed for children's development. The inspector jointly observed with the childminder as children engaged in activities. She spoke to children at appropriate times. The inspector looked at a range of play materials and areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector read and took account of feedback left by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows what action to take should she have any concerns about a child. Policies and procedures are detailed and risk assessments are in place. The childminder ensures that children are well supervised and play in a safe and secure environment. She has well-established links with the local school and other settings. The childminder is committed to working together with them to help ensure children's transitions are smooth. She is passionate about her role as a childminder and strives to raise standards. For example, she identifies specific training and attends different forums to improve learning outcomes for children, and to build on her existing knowledge.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of individual children's interests, skills and preferred learning styles. She completes observations and assessments of children's achievements and development. She identifies what children need to learn next, to build on what they already know and can do. Children show a keen interest in their play, as they can easily see and reach toys and activities of their choice. Children develop an enjoyment of reading. The childminder gives her full attention to children as they sit closely together to share stories and talk about the pictures. Overall, the childminder links learning well to extend children's interests and further develop their knowledge. For example, children's interest in underwater sea-life is enhanced with visits to the local fishmongers and aquarium shop. The childminder sits alongside children and joins in with their play. This allows her to model learning well.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a good range of toys and resources available for children to use. Children have opportunities to learn about their own self-identities, their family life, and different cultures through play and activities. This helps to increase children's awareness of the wider world and respect and value difference. Children are provided with a good range of snacks that supports them to develop a healthy approach to eating food that is good for them. They play outdoors in the community parks, and the groups they attend throughout the week. This contributes to their good health and provides opportunities for them to build on their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing skills that prepare them well for the move to school. Children show a strong interest in early writing. They take on responsibility to help set out play resources and clear away. Children develop their mathematical skills as they play. For example, they successfully count the dots on the bricks to identify the number.
