This provision is good
The experienced childminder uses her knowledge of child development effectively to plan interesting activities that help to stimulate children's curiosity to explore. For instance, she provides a play fishing rod and children eagerly catch toy fish from the water. Children build on their physical development. The childminder supports a smooth settling-in process for children when they start at the setting. Children settle quickly, build confidence and are eager to join in activities. The childminder shares information effectively with parents, carers and other settings that children attend, including schools. This helps to support continuity in children's care and learning. Self-evaluation is effective. The childminder reflects well on her practice. She values the views of parents and she shares ideas with other childminders. For instance, she has reviewed and revised the observation, assessment and planning process. This helps her

to meet children's individual needs effectively. All children make good progress towards the next stages in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
During some activities, the childminder misses opportunities to encourage children to develop their own thoughts and ideas further. The childminder does not take all opportunities to help children build on their early writing skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children and the childminder's interactions with them. The inspector viewed a sample of documents, including children's learning records. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder and assessed how she reviews teaching practice. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder tracks children's progress regularly, and identifies and addresses any gaps in their development. She accesses relevant professional development opportunities to enhance her teaching practice continually. For instance, she uses her training knowledge and skills well to plan positive changes to the learning programme for children's communication and language development. This helps to increase outcomes for all children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding guidelines. She has a secure understanding of child protection issues and knows how to refer any concerns to relevant outside agencies. She completes regular risk assessments to help ensure that the premises and equipment are safe for children's use.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children well to help them build on their understanding of the wider community. For instance, she reads stories to them about different occupations. The childminder encourages children's responses to stories. For example, she shows them a picture of a chef at work and encourages them to name the ingredients he has stored in the fridge. Children identify and name food items, such as carrots, chicken, eggs and milk. Children build on their early reading skills and the childminder supports older children well, to help them build on their vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is friendly and engages well with the children. Children form trusting relationships with her. This helps to support their emotional well-being. They freely approach her when they need help. She praises children and encourages them, which helps them to build a positive sense of themselves. The childminder provides healthy snacks for children. She encourages them to try new and nutritious foods. Children learn to make healthy choices. The childminder supports children closely to help them build an awareness of hygiene routine, such as washing their hands before having a snack. This helps to support children's good health. Children behave well and learn from positive interactions with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn to name pictures of animals, such as a lion and bear. This helps them to build on their understanding of the natural world. They extend their mathematical skills. For instance, they learn to link shapes as they build a train track. Children identify numbers of personal significance, such as their age. Children are ready for future learning and their eventual move to school.
