This provision is good
Children feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. They have a good understanding of right and wrong and behave well. The childminder makes good use of her observations of the children's learning, to identify their next steps. She uses information gained to plan a broad range of activities and learning experiences which supports children effectively to make good progress in their learning. The childminder reflects well on her practice to help her identify areas for improvement and ensure positive outcomes for children. For example, she has improved the way in which she tracks children's progress and has plans to develop a planting area outside. The childminder establishes good partnerships with parents and other early years settings. This helps to ensure she knows the children well and that plans for future progress have a shared and consistent approach to children's development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not organise the play areas as effectively as she could to provide children with space to move around and fully develop their play. The childminder does not consistently provide opportunities for children to use a wide range of materials and techniques to develop their imaginative skills further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies. The inspector and the childminder observed children during activities and completed a follow-up discussion about children's learning and progress. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views from their written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of local safeguarding procedures and wider safeguarding issues. She knows what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder develops her professional knowledge and teaching skills well through attending training courses and discussion with other childminders. For example, she now uses sign language when singing with children to encourage their participation and understanding successfully. The childminder uses her assessments of the children well to monitor their progress effectively and close any gaps in learning quickly.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of activities that children enjoy. She interacts with children sensitively and involves herself in their play, repeating words and sounds back to support their communication and language skills successfully. Young children are beginning to put two words together and are developing a good understanding and vocabulary. The childminder provides very good support for children's mathematical development. They play in the garden with water, filling and emptying different sized containers. They count spontaneously as they move small tortoise toys from one place to another. The childminder writes children's names on their drawings and sounds out the letters to help promote their literacy skills. The childminder supports children well to explore and investigate. For example, children enjoy playing musical instruments, excitedly exploring the different sounds that they can make and enjoy singing songs with the
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is kind and gentle. She forms strong bonds with the children, who readily seek her out for support and reassurance. Children are happy and emotionally secure. They enjoy being active outdoors, developing good physical skills. The childminder gives children lots of praise and encouragement for their efforts and achievements. For example, children skilfully climb the steps to use the slide. This boosts their self-esteem and confidence in their own ability. The childminder takes the children to activity groups, helping them to develop a good awareness of their community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a wide range of key skills which prepares them well for their future learning and school. They learn to play cooperatively, share resources and understand the need to take turns. Young children count confidently in routines and activities, recognise colours and enjoy practising their early writing skills. Children are independent, learn good social skills and develop a positive attitude to learning.
