This provision is good
The childminder builds effective relationships with parents and keeps them well informed about their children's progress. She obtains and uses valuable information to help establish clear starting points for children's learning. The childminder works closely with parents to plan and support the next steps in their children's learning. Children develop confidence and good self-esteem. They enjoy interacting with the childminder and communicate their needs well. For example, they let her know when they would like their snack or which activities they would like to do. They make independent choices and are very engaged in their learning. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how children learn. She uses this knowledge to help them make good progress and prepare them well for the next stage in their learning. She measures and reviews their progress regularly and identifies any gaps in their learning.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder reflects on her provision well and identifies areas for improvement to increase children's learning experiences. She keeps up with her continuous professional development to help provide good-quality teaching and focused challenges for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently provide children with opportunities to explore a wide range of natural materials to extend their creativity and imaginations even further.
p.1

enhance children's opportunities to explore and experiment with their creativity in the natural world.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outside, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements rigorous practice that reflects her secure knowledge of how to keep children safe. She checks that the premises and equipment are safe for children to use and she minimises potential hazards. The childminder updates her knowledge regularly and monitors children's progress accurately. She exchanges information about children's progress and well-being with the other settings that they attend, supporting consistency in their care and learning. The childminder establishes close links with other early years professionals. She makes good use of their advice as part of evaluating her practice and making improvements to support all children's needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her own creativity very effectively to plan activities that engage children in the exploration of textures and colours. For example, children use brushes carefully to paint plaster models of their favourite film characters. The childminder takes this opportunity to extend their language development as she asks them about the characters and which colours the children want to use. She encourages babies to explore finger painting and making marks. The childminder recognises when children wish to move on to a new activity, such as when they use their small-muscle skills to put small pom-poms and toy chicks into different sized plastic eggs. She talks to the children about Easter and the colours and textures of the eggs, chicks and bunnies they use to fill and empty containers. The childminder makes all children's learning enjoyable and bases her planning on their individual interests and needs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder teaches children to be independent in their self-care in readiness for their move to nursery. She teaches them the importance of washing their hands at appropriate times and to use good manners. Children are kind to each other and the childminder helps them to share the toys. They respond well to this, such as when two children take turns to use a torch. Children are very happy and settled in the childminder's care and she meets their individual needs very well. Children may sleep at times that the childminder agrees with parents. She provides healthy meals and snacks. Children enjoy daily outdoor play in the childminder's garden and at many exciting venues.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing the skills they need for their future learning. They count and use mathematical language in their play and daily routines. For example, they count plastic letters as they put them away. Children identify letters in their names and repeat the sounds of each one. They show excitement as they explore toys frozen in ice, shaving foam that represents snow and glittery water in an icy landscape activity.
