Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living and working on the premises. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good awareness of her roles and responsibilities to help to keep children safe. She attends regular training so that she is up to date with any changes in child protection and ensures that all policies are updated to reflect these. Where children attend another provision, the childminder shares information on children's interests and promotes further learning and development with shared ideas and resources. The childminder ensures the house is safe and secure. She keeps parents well informed about the type of activities children undertake and any care issues. Parents comment positively about the provision, the bond their children have with her and how pleased they are with their child's progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly assesses children's progress and identifies areas where she needs to support their learning. She gets fully involved in children's play and encourages all children to have confidence in their abilities. For example, she encourages children to count as they place little plastic ducks into a bucket, extending their identified next steps in mathematics and language development. The childminder extends their learning further by introducing new words to build their vocabulary and mathematical language. Children count with increasing accuracy. The childminder encourages children's early communication skills successfully through her relaxed conversations as they play. Children enjoy a good range of fun and interesting play activities and experiences that motivates their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are settled and content. The childminder's warm, caring manner helps children to develop a strong sense of security and emotional well-being. Children are very happy, settled and enjoy their time with the childminder. For example, they delight in being pushed around in the little cars during outdoors play. They enjoy a good range of activities and experiences indoors and outdoors. Positive behaviour is encouraged and children behave well. The childminder is consistent with natural praise and encouragement, which results in children feeling confident and settled. The childminder ensures children develop an understanding of healthy lifestyles. She provides opportunities for regular exercise and a range of nutritious homemade meals. The childminder gathers information from parents to support children's emotional well-being, when they first start.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children successfully learn skills that prepare them well for their future learning. All children make good progress from their starting points. Children develop their literacy skills well and enjoy exploring with writing materials, such as pencils and crayons. They independently find their own coats, gloves and shoes, and are supported to try and put these on themselves.
