pleased with the progress their children make.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasions, the childminder does not always make the best of opportunities during activities to extend children's mathematical development further.  Some resources and equipment are not effectively organised to enable all children to make play choices for themselves, to fully support their independence.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has very good understanding of child protection procedures and the action she would need to take if concerned for a child's welfare. The childminder is proactive in collecting information from organisations dedicated to early years and uses this to further develop her knowledge and skills. For example, she has completed online courses linked to the early years foundation stage. The parents are happy with the learning environment the childminder provides for their children. She uses parents' views and her assessments of children's learning to monitor their progress effectively and plan activities. For example, she has introduced very effective strategies to support children's communication and language skills.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's interests in their play and learning. She provides activities for which children show great enthusiasm, such as dancing and singing. The childminder provides appropriate resources that support children's developmental skills. For example, children make shakers out of plastic cartons and rice. They enjoy decorating the shakers and listening to the sound of the rice. The childminder skilfully introduces new vocabulary into play at every opportunity, for example, she talks about the colours and shapes they stick onto their shakers. The childminder provides opportunities for children to be physical. They enjoy running, climbing and taking risks, such as while playing at the local play park. Children make very good progress in their learning and development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children very happily and confidently seek out the childminder for support and attention. They independently feed themselves at mealtimes and enjoy healthy, nutritious snacks of fruit. The childminder provides consistent and desirable behavioural expectations and is an extremely positive role model. Children gain very good social skills. They meet other groups of children and adults, such as when they visit local toddler groups. When out in the community, children learn to stay safe, for example, when crossing the roads.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop the skills they need to move on to their next stage of learning. They learn to share, take turns and be respectful of each other. The children develop their exploratory skills very well, for example, when helping to look after the pet rabbits and guinea pigs and digging in the earth outside. They really enjoy exciting outings that help them to learn about the world in which they live. For example, they go on regular excursions to the nearby zoological park to see wild animals in their natural habitat. In addition, the children learn about, and celebrate, many festivals, such as Christmas, Mother's Day, Diwali and other important cultural events from around the world.
