Young people continue to receive good care that supports them to make progress in their lives. Young people who have been at risk of significant harm have reduced and eliminated unsafe behaviour and show a much greater awareness of how to stay safe.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Young people have re-engaged with education and this is a great achievement for them. Care staff’s close links with education staff promote attendance and support young people to persevere in education even when they are struggling.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Young people are registered with the relevant primary healthcare services. They attend their routine health appointments with good support and encouragement from staff. Young people have access to the services that they need to promote their physical, Interim inspection report children’s home: SC464958 2 emotional and psychological well-being. Trained staff store and safely administer young people’s medication.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Since the home’s last inspection, there have been no reports of young people missing from care and there have been a reduced number of physical interventions. This is a consequence of incentive reward systems, and regular key-work sessions which enable young people to manage their own behaviour more effectively.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The registered manager continues to work closely with placing authorities to promote contact that is positive and safe. This ensures that young people continue to build relationships and attachments with those significant to them.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Young people take part in a range of activities inside the home and the local community. This provides them with opportunities to have fun and enjoyment and build confidence and self-esteem. Examples of activities include horse riding, ice skating, attendance at the local youth club and days out to places of interest.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Young people live in a safe and secure environment. There are effective health and safety systems in place. Regular fire drills ensure that young people know how to exit the building safely and quickly, in the event of an emergency. The provider follows an effective recruitment and selection process ensuring that only those deemed suitable to work with vulnerable individuals look after young people.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The home continues to be managed by a suitably qualified registered manager who has been in post since November 2014. The home has clearly defined policies for the supervision and training of staff and an induction programme designed to ensure that all staff have the skills and qualities necessary for effective childcare practice.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The registered manager has not made sure that the statement of purpose is accurate. For example, the document does not highlight the home’s practice of securing specific areas of the house. This means that parents and placing authorities are not being provided with an accurate overview of the home.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The registered manager has established good working relationships with external professionals, including the police, education professionals and placing authorities. This partnership approach means that young people and staff are benefiting from the full range of support and guidance provided by other professionals within the community.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The registered manager has responded positively to the requirements made at the last full inspection. In relation to the protection of children standard, all staff have now completed level 3 safeguarding training, young people’s plans are now discussed at team meetings, newly recruited staff now receive greater supervision and staff have received training about notifiable events. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families.
