This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning. The experienced childminder uses her observations and assessments effectively to monitor their development. This helps her to support children in achieving what they need to learn next. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of how children learn. Children have access to a wide range of appropriate activities and experiences. They confidently explore and quickly become interested in learning as the childminder plays alongside them. The childminder provides many opportunities for children to discover the local environment during their regular walks and outings. This helps them to develop their knowledge of the world around them while experiencing fresh air and physical exercise. Children behave well. The childminder is a positive role model. She encourages the use of good manners and offers plenty of praise during activities and daily routines.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The current programme for professional development is not yet highly focused on improving the quality of teaching to the highest level. The childminder does not consistently gain detailed information about children's learning in other settings that they attend, to help promote consistency in their learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of suitability of all adults living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her role and responsibilities to protect children. She is aware of the signs and indicators that would give her cause for concern about a child's welfare. The childminder understands the procedures to follow to report any such concerns. She has completed training to help ensure her knowledge of how to protect children is up to date and includes current legislation. Children are cared for in a safe and secure environment. Partnerships with parents are good. They regularly share a wealth of information about their children. Parents comment positively about the quality of care and learning. The childminder seeks the views of parents and regularly reflects on her provision to make improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts well with children. She models language, sustains children's interest and promotes their speaking and listening skills well. The childminder is skilled in asking children appropriate questions and introducing new words and phrases to extend children's learning. This helps to promote children's communication and language development effectively. Young children are inquisitive and keen to explore. They develop an early interest in books and delight in choosing from the good selection available. For example, they listen carefully to their favourite stories and enthusiastically help to turn the pages. They eagerly use the finger puppets linked to the story.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very happy and settled in the childminder's care and form strong bonds with her and her family. She successfully promotes children's emotional well-being. She collects good-quality information from parents before children start. Young children are developing good self-confidence and independence. For example, they confidently select what they want to play with and competently use a spoon to feed themselves their healthy lunches. The childminder offers children plenty of encouragement and praise as they play. This supports them effectively to learn to share, be kind and use good manners. Children have many opportunities to socialise with other children. For example, they visit local community groups and enjoy frequent outings to local places of interest.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. They are motivated learners who maintain focus on their activities for a good length of time. For example, children demonstrate good coordination and perseverance skills as they build with the bricks. Young children enjoy filling and emptying containers, are beginning to count and can recognise some colours. Children are developing a suitable range of skills in preparation for their future learning and their eventual move on to school.
