This provision is inadequate
The childminder does not effectively safeguard children. She has failed to provide Ofsted with the required information to assess the suitability of all persons aged over 16 years living at the premises, within required timeframes. This compromises children's safety and welfare. The childminder has a poor understanding and knowledge of the changes and events that must be notified to Ofsted and when. The childminder does not effectively reflect on her practice or gather the views of parents to evaluate her service and set targets for improvement.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder creates positive relationships with children. She ensures they are relaxed and settled in the environment. Children have high levels of confidence and self-esteem. All children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder understands how children learn and develop. She plans challenging activities which engage and help to motivate children to learn.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact on children's learning. The inspector had a tour of the setting. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as training certificates, policies, procedures, medication records and evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. The childminder has failed to provide Ofsted with the required information to enable it to assess the suitability of all individuals aged over 16 years living at the premises. This means that children's safety and well-being are compromised. In addition, the childminder has a poor understanding of the changes and events that must be notified to Ofsted. The childminder did not inform Ofsted of changes to the adults living at the premises where children are cared for, within required timeframes. However, the childminder attends regular safeguarding training and has up-to-date knowledge of new legislation. She also knows to whom to refer any concerns regarding children's welfare. The childminder does not reflect on her practice. She does not actively engage parents in evaluating her service and does not set herself targets for continuous improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well and plans a wide range of activities linking them to their interests. She shares children's next steps with parents to complement learning between home and the setting. In addition, she understands the importance of sharing information about children's learning with other settings children attend. The childminder continually challenges children in their play. For instance, children play with dinosaurs and she names them, encouraging children to use names, such as 'stegosaurus', in their play. Older children play board games with the childminder. Children are excellent communicators and the childminder introduces narrative with children as they play. In addition, she uses a range of questioning techniques to promote children's conversational skills and develop their ability to think. Younger children are supported to make sounds with musical instruments as the childminder promotes early listening skills. She accurately

assesses children's progress, and understands the curriculum and how children learn and develop.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
The weaknesses in leadership and management have a significant impact on children's welfare. Nonetheless, children are confident in the childminder's care. They initiate conversations with visitors and express themselves well. Children behave very well and have good manners. The childminder praises children for their positive behaviour. The childminder creates nutritious and balanced meals for children and understands their dietary needs and stages of weaning. Children develop positive attitudes to healthy eating. Furthermore, the childminder encourages outdoor play daily. Children play in the garden and visit the local park. The childminder supports children to adopt healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder prepares children very well for school. She explains to children the expectations of school and they are prepared well for their future learning. Children listen well and enjoy stories. They ask questions and concentrate for long periods. Older children recognise written numerals and develop the small muscles in their hands in preparation for holding a pencil and writing. Children are sociable, kind and caring. They express and manage their feelings well.
