This provision is good
Children are very happy and settled. They are well behaved and have a close relationship with the childminder. Children enjoy the wide range of stimulating activities that she provides. The childminder provides a home-from-home environment. She provides a flexible settling-in procedure. The childminder ensures that resources children enjoy playing with are easily available for them. The childminder had thoughtfully created a child-centred covered outdoor learning environment. There is a good investment of resources to continually support children's development. The childminder regularly reviews the quality of her practice. She values the views of parents and children, and includes these in the process. Parents are highly complimentary about the care and learning opportunities their children receive. They say that they are delighted with the care and learning provided and that their children enjoy coming to the childminder's home.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to maximise children's independence. At times, the childminder does not adapt her teaching to help children gain an understanding about mathematical language and what this represents.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector talked to the childminder and joined in with the children's play at appropriate times. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults living on the premises. The inspector looked at samples of children's records. She looked at a range of other documentation, including the safeguarding policy and procedures. The inspector spoke to a child's parent and took account of the views of other parents from documents containing their comments on the provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the process to follow if she has any concerns about children. She carefully assesses potential risks within her home and garden. The childminder takes children on purposeful outings and ensures that they are safe. The childminder regularly observes children as they play and shares detailed assessments of their progress with parents. She is aware of where to seek advice and support if she is concerned about a child's development. The childminder shares good practice with other childcare professionals and completes training with them. They discuss this together to help increase her knowledge.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows what children enjoy playing with and helps children to concentrate on tasks. She is very supportive and interacts warmly to guide and enhance their learning. For example, the childminder provides a range of sensory materials for exploration. Children are encouraged to make marks in the sand, soil and salt. They smile broadly when they achieve this. This helps to develop muscles in their hands in readiness for early writing. The childminder helps children to makes choices, such as selecting where to play. They enjoy imaginative play in the covered outdoor play area. They engross themselves in playing with dinosaurs and the childminder supports their language development. For instance, the individual names of the extinct animals are discussed and children copy these. The childminder ensures that the planned activities, such as craft sessions, are adapted to suit children at different stages of ability.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is attentive to children's needs. She works closely with parents to ensure that children's changing needs are well known. The childminder provides nutritious meals and children develop an understanding of healthy living. For example, they grow fruit and vegetables in the garden and enjoy eating these. Children are encouraged to use good manners and to develop good self-care skills. They have ample opportunities to be active and to practise their physical skills. For instance, the childminder ensures children are taken on purposeful outings. They visit parks, woodland and specific venues that have animals to feed. They learn about keeping safe when they walk to and from school and when they go on outings. Older children learn about online safety.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are learning skills to help them for their future learning, such as their eventual move on to school. They are building on their social skills and are learning how to take turns during their play. Children know shapes and colours. They listen to stories and make craft items to take home to share with their families. Children are learning self-help skills, such as putting on their own shoes in readiness for outdoor play.
