This provision is good

 The childminder has successfully addressed the recommendations raised at the previous inspection. For example, technological resources are now more accessible for children to use.  Children enjoy the childminder's company and form strong attachments with her. They develop good independence and self-care skills. This has a positive impact on children's emotional well-being and sense of security.  The childminder uses information from her observations and assessments of children's development well. She plans interesting activities to help support their good progress.  The childminder places a good focus on helping children to develop positive relationships with others. Children behave well.  The childminder forms effective partnerships with parents and other professionals. She shares information regularly to help ensure continuity in children's care and to promote their good learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently seek the views of parents and children when reflecting upon what could be improved in the setting.  Occasionally, the childminder does not take all opportunities to extend children's understanding of numbers and counting as they play, to extend further their good mathematical skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 continue to reflect on how to improve practice and seek the views of parents and children to help drive continuous improvement  provide more opportunities to extend children's awareness of numbers and counting, to further develop their good mathematical skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder.  The inspector examined evidence of suitability and sampled a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector took into account the written feedback from parents.  The inspector viewed the areas of the home that are used for childminding.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the child protection procedures, which enable her to safeguard children. She regularly checks the environment to keep it free from hazards and helps children understand how to stay safe. The childminder works well with parents to ensure that she meets the needs of individual children. She shares information with other childminders and gains ideas from them to help sharpen her teaching skills. The childminder seeks professional development opportunities to update her good knowledge further. For example, she has improved how she completes the two-year-old progress check on children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of how babies and young children learn. Children benefit from the childminder's good assessments of their development when they first start at the setting. She offers children a range of stimulating opportunities across all areas of learning. The childminder plans activities around children's interests, such as singing and dancing. Toddlers move their bodies to music and delight in playing musical instruments. She talks to children as they play, showing enthusiasm and helping them to persevere, such as when they try to balance toy cars on top of a narrow roadway.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and settle quickly in the childminder's care. They seek out the childminder for comfort and help when they need it. The childminder is a good role model and shows patience and kindness towards children. Children enjoy each other's company and the childminder helps them to cooperate and play well together. She builds their confidence and self-esteem, such as through giving encouragement and praise. She encourages children to eat healthy food and they learn to follow good hygiene routines. Children frequently take part in outdoor activities. This effectively promotes their physical health and well-being.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident to try new experiences and to follow their own ideas. They attend local groups and different places of interest in the community, to help them develop their social skills. Children are self-assured and show good levels of independence. They become confident communicators and clearly express their wishes and needs. All children make good progress and learn skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning.
