The childminder supports each child to develop an awareness of managing their own behaviour.  Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder encourages independence in everyday tasks and children are developing the skills they need in readiness for school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not yet developed her assessment systems fully, to enable her to monitor the progress of children precisely and build on their good progress further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build more consistently on what children need to learn next to help them achieve as much as possible in their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection and considered their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of who to contact if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She provides a safe environment and risk assessments are completed regularly. Parents and children complete regular questionnaires and their views are evaluated and considered. Parents speak highly of the childminder and comment on the homely environment that she creates for their children. The childminder discusses ideas with other professionals to help improve children's experiences and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is actively involved as children play. She asks open-ended questions throughout each activity and successfully supports their communication and language development. The childminder engages children and plans interesting activities that support their learning and development. For example, she encourages children to plant seeds into their Mother's Day pots and introduces language, such as 'growing' and 'sowing'. The childminder incorporates mathematics into everyday routines and encourages children to count their pieces of fruit at snack time. Children are given opportunities to problem solve and think of new ideas. For example, they independently decide how many handfuls of soil are needed to fill up their plant pots. Children are supported to think about how different amounts of paint can change the shades of colours.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children use good manners and follow the childminder's behavioural expectations. The childminder supports children to show kindness and consider the needs of others. She successfully promotes healthy eating. The childminder provides a range of nutritious snacks and children benefit from fresh air and daily exercise. She encourages children to recycle their rubbish and enhances their knowledge about being mindful of the environment. Children are encouraged to wash their hands and put on their coats and shoes for outside. This supports their independence and self-care skills. Children are happy and settle well into the routines of the day. Information is shared effectively with parents to further support children's confidence and learning at home.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points. They learn a good range of skills and show readiness for their next stage of learning and eventual move to school. Children are motivated to learn and are keen to share their ideas with the childminder. They confidently talk about their favourite animals and the different noises they make. Children are gaining skills for early writing and are encouraged to write their own names. They enjoy looking at the readily accessible books by themselves.
