This provision is good
Children make good use of a wide variety of interesting resources. Their resources are easily accessible and children are supported well in becoming self-motivated and independent learners. The childminder is warm, kind and gentle. Children are confident in their relationship with her and turn to her for help and support, if needed. Their emotional well-being is carefully nurtured and children are happy and settled. The childminder is secure in her knowledge and understanding of how young children learn. Children make good progress from their different starting points. The childminder plans interesting opportunities for children to learn about the natural world. For example, children enjoy walks in local nature reserves, woods and green spaces. Their physical development is supported well. Parents praise the care their children receive. The childminder effectively supports them in extending their children's learning at home. This provides continuity in their learning,
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough time to formulate their own responses to her questions and comments. Information collected about what children know and can do when they first join the setting is not used as effectively as possible to establish accurate starting points.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

give children even more time to formulate their responses and strengthen their speaking skills to an even higher level use information gathered when children first join the setting more effectively to establish starting points for children's leaning and sharply focus planning from the outset.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children as they were engaged in a variety of activities. The inspector looked at the rooms and resources used by the children. The inspector considered how the childminder reflects on her practice and her partnerships with parents. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she observes and assesses the children's progress. The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder clearly understands the signs and symptoms that may cause concern about the welfare of a child in her care and knows the referral procedures to follow. She has made herself aware of how to identify children who may be at risk of exposure to extreme ideas or behaviours. The childminder carries out regular risk assessments which help her keep children safe. For example, safety gates stop children from accessing stairs and she has devised effective strategies to help children move safely up and down them. The childminder consistently reflects on her practice and uses this to make targeted improvements. For example, she has recently enhanced how she tracks children's progress to better inform her about what they need to learn next.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment for children. She encourages them to play and learn together, and develop their social skills. She supports their use of technology well. For example, children laugh excitedly as they press buttons which make toys light up and play music. The childminder works effectively with other professionals. For instance, she discusses new ideas with other childminders. She effectively uses the knowledge gained from her training to carefully plan interesting activities which support all areas of learning. For example, she supports children in thinking about animals, colours and shapes as they use chalks to draw on a blackboard.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children respond positively to the childminder's use of appropriate praise and encouragement. They behave well and thrive in the nurturing atmosphere the childminder successfully creates. Children are provided with interesting opportunities to learn about their local area and people whose experiences may be outside their own, for example, during their regular trips to the local library. The childminder effectively teaches children about leading a healthy lifestyle. For instance, they relish eating broccoli as the childminder describes it as 'trees'. Children carry out simple acts of self-care which support their independence. For example, they confidently help themselves to drinks when they are thirsty.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are excited by their own learning and achievements. For example, they smile delightedly as they practise new skills they have just learned. Children confidently direct their own activities. For example, they experiment with drawing lines and dots, choose their favourite books to read and select letters and numbers to explore in their play. They are eager to share their play with others and spontaneously create games to play. They are prepared well for the next stage of their learning.
