This provision is good
The childminder effectively monitors children's progress and plans an exciting range of activities based on their stage of development, individual needs and emerging interests. Children make good progress, given their starting points. The childminder reflects well on her practice and has introduced more creative play, such as introducing recycled resources for children to explore. The childminder supports children's communication and language development well. For example, she reads children's favourite stories and they show delight in repeating familiar phrases within the storyline and sharing their thoughts and ideas. The childminder has an exceptionally calm, patient and positive manner. She is highly skilled at modelling ways to help young children to resolve conflict. Children know the daily routine and show highly impressive levels of self-esteem and confidence. The childminder encourages parents to provide ongoing information about children's

achievements, interests and home events. She works closely with other early years settings that children attend. She shares her knowledge of each child to promote continuity in their care, learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities for children to build on their already strong awareness of people's differences beyond their own family.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and interaction during activities and assessed the impact of this on children's learning. The inspector talked and listened to children as they played. The inspector sampled relevant documentation, such as safeguarding and risk assessment procedures, and viewed children's development records. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her self-evaluation and plans for improvement. The inspector took account of parents' views through their written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder is very attentive to all aspects of children's safety. For example, she regularly reviews and uses detailed risk assessments of the home, garden and outings to help minimise risks to children. The childminder engages in effective professional development to improve her own knowledge and understanding of children even further. For example, recent training supports her in helping young children manage their behaviour and resolve conflict. In addition, she has increased her understanding of how to prepare boys for school.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder draws effectively on her teaching qualification to provide meaningful learning experiences that engage children. Young children show high levels of perseverance, for example, as they explore and discover how toys fit together. The childminder extends children's mathematical skills effectively. For example, they count the ducks when playing a magnetic fishing-rod game together. The childminder seizes every opportunity to support children's early writing skills. Children have fun using different objects, such as making marks with twigs in snow. She asks well-considered questions that encourage children to think about what is happening and why. For example, children discover snow disappears when they pour water over it and are intrigued to find a frog hidden under a leaf.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Excellent communication with parents helps the childminder to create an exceptionally welcoming and nurturing environment. Children develop exceptionally secure emotional attachments with the childminder and they flourish in her care. The childminder is highly effective at building on young children's independence. For example, she is extremely patient as she encourages toddlers to put on their coats, hats and gloves before going on outings. The childminder praises children for their efforts and children smile with immense pride in their achievements. Children have excellent opportunities to play outdoors and be active. They make significant progress in their physical skills and coordination in relation to their young age. The childminder meticulously plans and provides a range of very nutritious snacks and meals that enhances children's health and well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children cooperate readily, listen to and follow instructions, and play well together. Children develop good imaginative skills, for instance, as they engage readily in make- believe play. They have good opportunities to express their creativity. They enjoy singing songs and moving their bodies using ribbons as they dance to music. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
