This provision is good

 The childminder provides a welcoming and safe environment. Children are happy and settled. There is a good range of activities and resources for children to choose from independently.  Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder gives parents detailed information about their child's day and routine. Parents comment that they are extremely happy with the care their children receive and feel updated with their children's learning and development.  The childminder reflects well on her practice to develop her childminding provision. For example, she reviews in depth the different activities she provides, and carefully evaluates to see how she could improve them to help the children develop further.  Children benefit from regular outings and trips, such as soft play, the park and music classes. Children develop their social skills and learn about the community and environment around them.  The childminder monitors children's progress precisely to help her identify any gaps in

learning quickly. All children make good progress in their learning and development.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not allow children enough time to think and answer the questions she has asked.  The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to reinforce children's growing understanding of healthy eating.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 give children more time to respond to questions to promote their thinking skills  make the most of opportunities to reinforce children's understanding of how healthy eating contributes to leading a healthy lifestyle.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector had a tour of the areas used for childminding.  The inspector read written feedback from parents and took their views into account.  The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's development records and the childminder's self-evaluation.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows the procedures to follow if she were to have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to continuing her professional development. She accesses regular training to develop her practice further. For example, recent training has helped her to learn more about supporting children under two. The childminder conducts regular risk assessments of her home, garden and outings to minimise risks, this helps to keep children safe. The childminder implements a wide range of policies and procedures that underpin her good practice.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of all areas of learning and supports children to develop and progress. She uses observations and assessments of children's development to identify their next steps in learning. The childminder supports children's mathematical development skills well. For example, she skilfully weaves mathematics into children's routines and they confidently count the number of blocks they are tidying away. Children actively engage in imaginative play. For instance, they pretend to wash and dress dolls and read stories to them. The childminder promotes children's self-esteem and confidence with regular praise and encouragement and for their can-do attitudes.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are very comfortable with the childminder and have built warm, secure relationships with her. For example, they go to the childminder throughout the inspection for cuddles and reassurance. The childminder is a positive role model and effectively promotes good behaviour and manners. Children cooperate with each other, share resources and take turns with little support. The childminder provides children with opportunities to learn about the world around them. For example, they learn about different cultures and festivals, such as Shrove Tuesday and Chinese New Year.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are progressing well. They confidently express choices in their play and follow simple instructions. Children are independent, for example, they confidently put their shoes and coats on and off and hang them on their pegs. Children develop literacy skills. For example, they are beginning to learn letter sounds. Children are developing the skills they need for the next stage in their learning and readiness for school.
