This provision is good
The childminder develops strong links with parents and enables effective sharing of information so that children's welfare and development are prioritised. Children settle quickly and enjoy the time they spend with the childminder. They develop their social skills as they play alongside and with their peers. The childminder provides a broad range of experiences which are based on children's interests and are suitable for their stages in development. Resources are varied and are used well to ensure children have opportunities to practise and develop a range of skills. All children make good progress. The childminder supports children's learning through her interactions during play. She models problem-solving skills to encourage older children to develop their own ideas and find solutions.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Some activities with children of different ages are not organised as effectively as possible to enable all children to benefit from the learning opportunities available. The childminder evaluates the quality of her provision well, but does not consistently develop a well-focused plan for improvement and training to help children make the best possible progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact of teaching on children's development. The inspector spoke with the childminder, assistant and children during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the childminder's suitability and qualifications. The inspector took account of the views of parents through discussion and written feedback provided. The inspector looked at samples of paperwork, including policies and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of processes to follow in order to keep children safe and ensures that her assistants have up-to-date knowledge of child protection. She uses daily conversations with assistants to ensure they are updated with any new information, and to monitor and discuss their role within the setting. Information about children's progress and daily activities is shared with parents. Good communication supports the continuity of learning between home and the childminder, as well as links with outside agencies. The childminder checks the areas children use for safety and works with an assistant to help with the supervision of children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses what she knows about children well to plan interesting and exciting activities. Children who love sharks enjoy the trip to the aquarium to see them in the water. The childminder talks to children about what they have seen, helping them to recall past events and they look at and talk about the sharks' teeth. The childminder is flexible in her planning of activities and adapts plans according to their changing interests and other events. She plans activities outdoors so young children can play and explore in the snow. The childminder monitors children's progress and identifies their next steps in their development and uses this information to plan her activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Young children are learning to keep themselves safe and healthy; they remind babies to be careful when they lift the toys out of the basket and show care and concern for each other. They know routines, such as brushing teeth after eating and nappy changing. Younger children are learning social skills and respecting others as they respond to reminders about good behaviour, sharing and taking turns. Older children in the group choose to tidy away toys before the next activity. All children are confident and are encouraged to develop their levels of independence. Young children find their own coats to put on ready for going outdoors in the snow and older children offer to help put on babies' shoes.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are helped to be ready for their next stage in development. They are developing their language skills as they listen to the childminder and develop their vocabulary as they respond to the childminder's questions. They enjoy sitting together with the childminder and listening to stories. Older children choose items out of the bag and join in singing familiar songs, they are then confident to lead the game with the younger children. Babies explore a range of textures and sounds, happily shaking bottles of sand and watching it move from one end to the other. They develop good physical skills and enjoy squeezing coloured water through large syringes and make patterns in the snow.
