Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessment and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including training certificates and discussed the childminder's safeguarding procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents through the written feedback provided. The inspector spoke to the children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of all aspects of child protection and has a clear understanding of what procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare in her care. The childminder uses risk assessments well to identify potential hazards and maintains a safe environment for children. The childminder shares information about children's learning with other settings they attend to complement their learning effectively. Parents are very happy with the service she provides and are confident in the childminder's abilities. They appreciate what she does for them and their children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is supportive and interacts well to build on children's existing skills and knowledge. The childminder supports children's physical skills well. For example, she provides sensitive guidance to support them as they thread intricate beads onto metal rings. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills successfully. She models good use of language, narrates what children are doing, extends their vocabulary and repeats their words back with clear pronunciation. The childminder supports children's mathematical development effectively. For example, she encourages children to name the shape of the train track they construct and encourages them to count how many trains they have.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment. There is a range of resources, which children access freely. The childminder takes children on regular visits and trips in the local community. This helps them develop their social skills and understanding of others. The childminder skilfully encourages children to become independent. For example, children help to prepare their snacks and carefully carry their plates from the kitchen to the playroom. The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She is a good role model and provides clear guidance to the children about her expectations for behaviour. Children have many opportunities to be out in the fresh air and engage in physical play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. They are active learners. Children are busy and maintain focus on their activities for a good length of time. They demonstrate good coordination skills as they competently build tracks for their trains. Children are beginning to name colours and understand positional language, such as, 'on top of' and 'under'. They develop good relationships with their peers and learn a suitable range of skills in preparation for their future learning and their eventual move on to school.
