Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe from harm. She knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder completes daily checks in the environment and places children's safety and security as high priority. She works well with parents, including to gather all important information when their children first start at the setting. The childminder also shares ideas of how they can support their child's learning at home. This all supports continuity of care and learning between the home and setting effectively. The childminder has made a good start in evaluating the service she provides and seeks regular feedback from parents as part of the process. She keeps her knowledge up to date and makes improvements to her practice, for example, through discussions with other childminders.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She plans a wide range of interesting activities and experiences for them. The childminder regularly observes children at play. This helps her to plan activities that she knows they will enjoy and helps to move them on in their development. She places a strong focus on promoting children's communication and language skills. The childminder engages children in discussions as they play, asks effective questions and encourages them to think for themselves.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children benefit from the praise and encouragement the childminder gives to them. This helps to support their self-confidence and good self-esteem. The childminder helps children to develop an understanding of safety well. For example, she teaches them what to do in the event of a real emergency and how to keep safe and evacuate the home calmly. Children benefit from good opportunities to gain fresh air and exercise daily. For example, they enjoy trips to play areas and walk to and from the local school.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are motivated to learn, and they are developing the skills needed in readiness for school. They learn to share, take turns and become independent with self-care needs. Children are kind, caring and courteous to each other. Children develop good coordination. They skilfully roll and catch a ball and notice they need to hold their hands closer together when catching a smaller ball. They use simple mathematical concepts, such as counting, and make comparisons as they play. Children are confident communicators. They enjoy sharing books and talking about what is happening in their favourite stories.
