This provision is good
The childminder uses professional development to help her improve her practice. For example, she has updated her safeguarding knowledge to ensure she is working in line with current legislation. The childminder effectively monitors the good progress children make. She uses her observations well to plan for their next steps in learning as she follows their interests. The childminder builds young children's speaking skills well. For example, she interacts with them as they play and repeats words they say. Young children delight in taking part in action songs and rhymes with the childminder throughout the routine. The childminder gives children opportunities to socialise with others. They attend local play groups where they learn to share and take turns. Children develop the skills they need in readiness for their future moves on to nursery and school. The childminder encourages children's good health and physical development

effectively. Children enjoy nutritious meals and healthy snacks. Whilst learning about a well-known children's story, they enjoy exploring fruits during a related printing activity.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's use of self-evaluation is not fully effective in seeking the views of children and parents to help identify areas for improvement and weaknesses in practice, to help her target improvements more precisely. The childminder does not make full use of opportunities to extend children's knowledge of diversity and equality.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder interacting with the children. The inspector had discussions with the childminder about her practice and children's learning and development. The inspector sampled documents, including children's records and other relevant documentation. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. She held discussions with her regarding children's learning and the impact of teaching on their progress. The inspector read comments from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs and symptoms that may give her cause for concern about a child's welfare. She knows the correct procedures to follow if she has any concerns. Effective risk assessments for the home and outings help to ensure that children are kept safe and secure. Parents express positive feedback. For instance, they say the childminder 'has a really good way with the children and is always very kind, happy and calm which definitely rubs off on them'. The childminder completes regular assessments of children's progress, she tracks their development and shares the results with parents. Together they identify what they are going to focus on next for each child and how they are going to address any gaps in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children make choices about their play from the range of resources and play equipment the childminder stores accessibly around the home. They take part in adult-directed activities and those they choose for themselves. The childminder supervises children constantly and joins in with their play. This helps them to develop independence and self- esteem. The childminder ensures her planned activities cover specific areas of learning. For example, while printing, children developed good concentration skills as they talked about the names of the fruits, colours, texture and size. The childminder knows the children well and gathers detailed information from parents when children join the setting. Parents receive daily verbal feedback so that they understand what their child is learning during their time at the childminder's home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and confident within the childminder's home. They behave well. The childminder acts as a good role model and reminds children to be kind and respectful to one another. They respond positively towards her. Children gain an understanding of risk and take part in supervised activities that encourage them to explore resources safely. For example, young children are eager to have a go with a scooter when in the park, supported by the childminder when needed. Children develop independence well. For instance, young children are keen to, with assistance, cut the fruit in half and remove the lid from their own yoghurt pots, knowing that they will get praise for doing so.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working comfortably within the range of development for their ages. For example, they develop their early literacy skills as they talk about pictures they see in a book and turn the pages. They show good imagination, for instance, when playing with play food and preparing a snack for the childminder. Children are eager to learn and have good levels of motivation.
