This provision is good
The childminder evaluates her setting to promote continuous improvement. She reflects on planned and spontaneous activities to ensure that she can continually promote opportunities for children to make good progress. Children develop a good awareness of their personal safety. The childminder gently reminds them during discussion of the importance of using cutlery safely when preparing their own fruit snack. The childminder promotes children's understanding of mathematics. She uses opportunities, such as during creative activities to support their awareness of colours and shapes. In addition to this, the childminder promotes good use of mathematical language during her discussions and play with children. The childminder recognises what children like to do and she provides good opportunities for them to be imaginative. Children develop curiosity, indoors and in the outside environment, such as using sticks in the woods creatively.

This provision is good
The childminder plans for children's learning effectively. She considers how children of different ages can be fully involved when taking part in planned activities together.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder stops children's play to tidy up for routine mealtimes and this interrupts their enjoyment. On occasions, young children do not have enough time to think about how to respond to questions and comments.
p.1

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed an adult-led activity and evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector spoke to children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and reviewed evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of how to protect the children in her care and she is confident to identify signs and symptoms of abuse. The childminder completes regular child protection training and has the required policies and procedures to follow if she has concerns about children's welfare. The childminder fosters a culture of continuous professional development. She follows a programme of training which includes attending online courses and carrying out her own independent research. This supports her to keep up to date with legislative changes and enhances her teaching. The childminder has effective partnerships with parents and other professionals. Their feedback is positive and they speak highly of the childminder and the care and attention she provides their children with. The childminder is proactive in her response to parents' feedback. For example, she has recently made

changes to how she communicates with parents each day to ensure that this meets their individual requirements. This means parents receive quality information about their children's progress and achievements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular observations and identifies children's next steps in learning. She plans activities and experiences that are stimulating and enjoyable. Children develop a wide range of physical skills as, for example, they explore play dough. They use a range of tools as they manipulate the material and create their own shapes. The childminder extends their play with questions that cause them to think further. She introduces new words and vocabulary as they discuss the smell and the feel of the material. Children are happy. They make choices about their play, encouraged by the childminder. Children initiate music time and the childminder extends their interests. Children show great enthusiasm for a microphone that causes their voice to change. The childminder encourages them to sing and make a range of different sounds.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. The childminder is a good role model. She encourages children to make choices, think about the feelings of other children and she teaches them right from wrong. Children's personal, social and emotional development is promoted well. For example, when they help their friends, such as passing their drink or sharing toys, the childminder praises their kindness. Children benefit from good opportunities to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. They have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise as they explore their local environment and they eat a range of nutritious meals. Children are independent and show great determination, such as when putting on their socks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making effective progress in their learning given their starting points and capabilities. They are acquiring the key skills they need for future learning. Children show curiosity in their learning and the childminder challenges them effectively.
