 The childminder evaluates her provision effectively and makes continuous improvements. For example, she has increased support for children's recognition of letters and numbers, and she keeps up to date with safeguarding training.  The childminder interacts with children very well. She helps children to build on what they know and can do. Children make good progress in all areas of their learning.  The childminder constantly gives the children her time and attention. She has very warm and positive relationships with all the children. She teaches them to share, take turns and be very kind to each other. The children behave extremely well.  The childminder listens to parents' views and comments. This helps her to provide and adapt a wide range of exciting activities that reflects the children's interests. For example, children design and make bird feeders to hang in the trees outside.  The childminder provides plenty of opportunities for children to take part in physical

activity, and to rest. For example, they play tennis, attend gym sessions and relax in comfortable quiet areas. Children really enjoy their day.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always share her observations of the children's progress with parents, to ensure a joint approach to supporting children's developmental needs.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 ensure partnerships with parents are fully effective, to support children's progress at the setting and further improve children's outcomes.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector reviewed the resources with the childminder.  The inspector read and considered the comments of parents.  The inspector closely observed the childminder's interactions with children, and discussed the effectiveness of the activities with her.  The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.  The inspector reviewed a sample of relevant documents, including the safeguarding policy and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very clear knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and the action to take if concerned for a child's welfare. She regularly updates and reviews her responsibilities around safeguarding. The childminder makes very good use of information from other professionals and organisations dedicated to early years, to develop her skills. The parents are very happy with the exciting and challenging learning environment the childminder provides. The childminder uses her observations and assessments of children's learning to monitor their progress and plan activities around their individual interests.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder skilfully uses mathematical language in play at every opportunity. For example, she counts the ingredients for pizza toppings in role play. She supports children in measuring their height and calculates the number of jugs of water they will need to fill a bucket. The childminder introduces new vocabulary as children play at the role-play kitchen. For example, she talks about different types of vegetables, such as artichokes. Children develop their early writing skills well. For instance, the childminder provides a chalkboard outside where they can independently make marks with large chalks.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children very confidently seek out the childminder for support and attention. They behave extremely well and are strongly encouraged to be independent. For example, young children feed themselves at mealtimes and independently put their shoes and coat on before going out. Children enjoy healthy snacks of fruit and water. The childminder provides consistent and desirable behavioural expectations and is an extremely positive role model. Children eagerly learn about festivals such as Christmas and birthdays. They learn to stay safe when out in the community, for example, when crossing the roads or playing by the sea. The childminder plans exciting outings, such as visits to local toddler groups, parks and castles, to help them learn about the world in which they live. In addition, she displays print and posters from around the world throughout the setting.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children develop good skills to help prepare them for their next stage of learning. They enjoy making marks with play dough and happily smile, chat and babble to each other and familiar adults. Children spontaneously sing songs and enjoy listening to stories, which further develops their communication and language.
