p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The experiences and progress of children since the last inspection have been good. Two children moved out of the home; this move was planned and carried out well. During their time at this home, they benefited from the stability it provided for them and from good support from staff. Three new children have been supported to move into the home. Two have settled quickly into the routine of the home, while a third child is still very new to this environment.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The manager’s assessment of children moving into the home requires some improvement. Behaviour management plans and relevant risk assessments are not individualised to children’s needs. Despite this weakness, staff demonstrated that they know how to support the children and they do use individualised strategies to help them. Interim inspection report children’s home: SC363393 2 Children are well protected and kept safe. There have been no complaints or allegations made. A child protection concern was referred appropriately to the child’s social worker, and an agreed plan has been implemented to help keep the child safe. Children have not gone missing from this home since the previous inspection. Staff supervise children well, and there are appropriate arrangements in place for them to have unsupervised time away from the home.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
On one isolated occasion, staff failed to recognise that a child was anxious, and that this anxiety resulted in difficult behaviour. Staff issued an unreasonable sanction to the child and the manager authorised this as being suitable. During the inspection, the appropriateness of this sanction was discussed with the responsible individual, who recognised that it did not show a warm, welcoming or understanding response to a child who had just moved into a new home.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children live in a well-kept and homely environment. Their bathrooms and the kitchen have recently been newly decorated. A child told the inspector that he was provided with a budget to buy items for his room when he first moved in. The children will soon have more communal space downstairs, as the home’s office is being relocated to a smaller room to create a large games room for the children. Children enjoy living at this home; one child described his experience here as ‘cushty’.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children are making expected progress educationally and are developing skills for adult life. Two children attend school and an older child attends a training scheme aimed at helping to prepare him for employment. One child also has a regular weekend job.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff receive good opportunities to hold professional discussions. Supervisions and team meetings are conducted regularly, and all staff are asked to attend group consultations with a therapist who supports the home.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Effective monitoring of the home takes place at the required timescales. The manager ensures that recommendations from the monthly independent visitor are addressed. His quarterly monitoring of the quality of care identifies positive themes and developmental areas. The manager makes timely notifications to Ofsted informing the inspector of significant events that occur.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
One requirement is carried forward from the full inspection as the end date has not yet expired. The staff member who has not gained the required residential childcare qualification within the necessary timeframe is now working towards completing the award and is confident that he will finish it soon.
