Information about this inspection

The purpose of this visit was to assess the home following a recent complaint that was received by Ofsted. The complaint raised concerns as to the home environment and the behaviour of young people.

p.2

Information about this inspection

The home environment has deteriorated. Following one incident that occurred on 23 December 2017, nine windows were smashed by a young person on the ground floor of the house. Presently wooden boards are in place. This presents a poor, unkempt impression for young people and for the wider neighbourhood.

p.2

Information about this inspection

During the incident staff attempted to de-escalate the situation whilst maintaining the safety of the two other young people resident in the home. These young people remained on the first floor of the home throughout the incident and were kept safe. The incident culminated in police attending the home and arresting the young person who had caused the damage. This young person has since moved on from the home.

p.2

Information about this inspection

Staff provided written evidence of the efforts the home had taken to replace the windows, such as communication with the home’s insurance company. However, the Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC464532 3 insurance company failed to respond in a timely fashion, delaying the replacement of the windows. Managers accept that the delay in replacing the windows is not acceptable.

p.2

Information about this inspection

There is no other damage to the home. Young people report feeling happy in the home and that it remains warm and comfortable. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC464532 4
