She is skilled at making the most of learning opportunities as they arise to extend children's knowledge and understanding. Children are happy and well settled in the childminder's care. They form close and caring attachments to each other, the childminder and her family. From a young age, children learn to show kindness and concern for others. The childminder has high expectations of what children can achieve. She evaluates her practice and provides children with a stimulating range of challenging activities and experiences to help prepare them well for their future learning. Parents are very complimentary about the home-from-home environment provided by the childminder. They praise the different methods she uses to share information with them about what their child has done each day. Parents comment on how the

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact on children's learning. She went for a walk with the childminder and the children. The inspector evaluated the success of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of household members. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder listens to parents' comments about their child's progress and provides specific activities to focus on any particular aspects parents are concerned about. She maintains photographic records of children's achievements which are shared with children and parents. The childminder accurately describes children's capabilities and their stage of development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder attends training and ensures her knowledge of child protection issues is up to date. She is confident about the action to take to protect children and keep them safe from harm. The childminder helps children to consider the possible consequences of their actions to promote their understanding of personal safety.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her good knowledge of child development to accurately monitor children's progress. She targets her teaching skills at what individual children need to learn next. The childminder makes good use of children's current interests, such as their fascination with a new board game. She extends children's counting skills and understanding of mathematical concepts. The childminder engages in meaningful dialogue with children, for example while they sit drawing, she asks thought-provoking questions to encourage children to express themselves. She builds on children's discoveries, such as when they step on some sand they have tipped on the floor. The childminder uses this as a good opportunity to encourage children to compare the patterns their shoes make and to work out whose feet are the biggest.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children of different ages and abilities play together well. The childminder sensitively encourages their cooperation and tolerance. Children respond well to her consistent guidance and support about sharing and being kind to one another. The childminder praises children's kindness, such as when a young child tries to cheer up another who is upset. Children benefit from many opportunities to play outdoors in the fresh air. The childminder makes good use of her garden to promote all aspects of children's learning. Covered areas in the garden are used well to ensure children can comfortably play outdoors even in bad weather. The childminder uses the local environment well to extend children's experiences, such as going to collect eggs from a neighbour's chickens. The childminder uses well-established routines to help children develop independence and start to take some responsibility for their own personal care.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the key skills to support their eventual move on to school. They demonstrate a good understanding of numbers and shapes for their age, such as being able to name a semi-circle. Children use good language skills and confidently talk about past events and things that are important in their lives. They are learning to listen to and respect the views and feelings of others.
