 The childminder evaluates her provision effectively and makes continuous improvements. She plans activities that encourage all children to move on in their learning from when they start at the setting. She keeps up to date with safeguarding training.  The childminder interacts with children very well. She helps them to build on what they know and can do. Children make very good progress in literacy and early mathematics skills.  The childminder consistently gives the children her time and attention and has very warm and positive relationships with all children. She teaches them to be kind and considerate to each other, gently supporting all children to understand what is acceptable and what is not.  The childminder plans well for the children's needs and listens to parents' views and comments. Parents express high levels of satisfaction about the progress their children make.  The childminder provides plenty of opportunities for the children to take part in physical

activity and rest. She enables children to enjoy their day.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses some opportunities to promote children's sensory experiences.  The childminder does not consistently make a wide range of resources readily available to support children's exploration and investigative skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities

 The inspector reviewed the resources with the childminder.  The inspector sampled some testimonials from parents and considered their comments.  The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with young children and discussed the learning aspects with her.  The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process with her.  The inspector sampled a selection of relevant documents, including safeguarding policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has good knowledge and understanding of child protection policy and procedures if concerned for a child's welfare. She makes very good use of information from other professionals and organisations dedicated to early years to develop her skills. The childminder welcomes families into her setting and is supportive to children as they embark on their next stage of learning, for example, at pre-school and school. The parents are very happy with the caring environment the childminder provides and comment that their children make good progress in all areas of their learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder skilfully uses mathematical language in play. For example, she uses picture books to count animals with the children at story time and introduces simple calculation during snack, such as adding pieces of fruit together. The childminder talks about colours and shapes when children are drawing on paper. For example, they discuss the many different colours and designs of a butterfly's wings. The childminder introduces new vocabulary at every opportunity, such as naming exotic fruits and different types of vegetables while she plays alongside the children. She praises and encourages the children well as they sing action songs and dance to popular music. The childminder uses her observations and assessments of children's learning to monitor progress well and plan activities around their interests. For example, the childminder plans outings to open areas, such as local parks where children can run, climb and be physically active.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children confidently seek out the childminder for support and attention. The childminder teaches children to share and take turns, such as when playing games. Children enjoy social outings where they meet other groups of children and adults, for example, at toddler groups and soft-play areas. Children learn to stay safe. For example, when out in the local community, they learn about road safety.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good skills and are ready to move on to their next stage of learning. For example, they develop good early writing skills as they make marks with crayons. They learn about festivals, such as Christmas, to help them learn about the world in which they live. Children happily chat to each other and familiar adults, further developing their communication and language. Children are independent and developing confidence, enabling them to move seamlessly on to their next steps in learning.
