This provision is good
Children are happy and settled. They share strong emotional attachments with the childminder and her full-time assistant. The childminder helps to develop children's communication and language skills particularly well. Children make good progress and they are well prepared for school when the time comes. The childminder encourages older children to persevere with more complex physical challenges, such as dressing in waterproof suits. She reassures them that she is there to help and reminds them to use their words to ask for help. The childminder forges excellent partnerships with parents and uses a variety of methods to communicate with them. She encourages a shared approach to help children progress, including supporting parents to guide learning at home. The childminder gathers the views of others to support her self-evaluation. She identifies areas for improvement and is keen to continually enhance her practice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder does not give children uninterrupted time to develop their play. The childminder does not always provide access to natural resources for children to further promote their creativity and imagination.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

give children more uninterrupted time to become deeply involved in their play review and enhance opportunities for children to use their imagination and creativity.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector and the childminder jointly evaluated a teaching activity carried out by the full-time assistant. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and discussed self-evaluation. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such evidence of the suitability of the assistants. The inspector spoke to some children, the full-time assistant and parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her full-time assistant have a good understanding of what to do if they are concerned about the welfare of a child. They have undertaken a good range of training to help keep children safe. The childminder has robust risk assessment procedures in place. She supervises her assistant well. The childminder accesses professional development opportunities. For example, the childminder and her assistant have undertaken training to meet the needs of babies. The childminder involves parents in the assessment of children's learning from the beginning. Any gaps in learning are identified promptly and shared with parents, without delay. Where necessary, the childminder supports parents to gain the involvement of external agencies.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder quickly gets to know children. She gathers and shares comprehensive information with other settings that children attend. The childminder uses this information to help her make accurate observations and assessments about what children know and can do. She provides experiences that are linked to children's interests and their next steps in development. The childminder is a delightful storyteller and children are captivated by her enthusiasm. She asks questions to probe children's understanding and she encourages them to think. As children hear new words, she explains to them what the words mean. For example, she helps children to understand what cinnamon is, while reading the story of The Gingerbread Man. The childminder provides real-life experiences for children, such as baking.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder teaches children how to be independent in care routines for their good health. For example, children take tissues, blow their noses, check in a mirror and wash their hands by themselves. Children are motivated and willingly contribute to cleaning tasks. For example, children volunteer to sweep the floor and wipe down the table after lunch. Children's behaviour is well managed by the childminder and her assistant. They use positive methods to encourage children's good behaviour. Children learn about boundaries and they know what is expected of them. The assistant is particularly good at giving children clear explanations about the reasons for rules and how to keep themselves and others safe. The childminder works with parents to provide consistent messages for children to hear in the setting and at home.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children feel safe in the care of the childminder and her assistant. They enjoy having the choice of indoor or outdoor play and boys particularly like to play in the garden. Children listen to the guidance of the childminder and her assistant. They are encouraged to use good manners and are polite for their ages. Children remind each other that sharing is caring. Children engage in counting while they play and during daily routines.
